Baranski was married to actor Matthew Cowles between 1983 and 2014 when he sadly passed away. They have two daughters.

Professional Life

Baranski has close to 100 acting credits to her name and has done extensive theatre work as well. She debuted in film in 1980 in Playing for Time. Other notorious films she was in include 9 1/2 Weeks, The Pick-up Artist, Reversal of Fortune, Addams Family Values, The War, The Birdcage, Cruel Intentions, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Bowfinger, Chicago, Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Into the Woods, Trolls (voice only), and 2020’s Christmas on the Square.

Her debut on television occurred in 1977, with Busting Loose. Other notorious roles and appearances include series like All My Children, Law & Order, The Equalizer, Saturday Night Live, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Frasier, Ghost Whisperer, Ugly Betty, Psych, Bojack Horseman (voice role only), Young Sheldon, and 2022’s The Gilded Age.

Baranski had a central role on Cybill, which earned her an Emmy win. She played Maryann, the hard-drinking friend of the titular Cybill.

In The Big Bang Theory, Baranski portrayed Dr. Beverly Hofstadter, the mother of main character Leonard. She would appear in 16 episodes. Her character portrayed a comically distant mother who tended to run psychological experiments on her kid, all while being a recognized authority in child-rearing.
