Nayyar married Neha Kapur in 2011. He got a business degree and then a Master of Fine Arts in acting.

Nayyar started his career working in ads in America and plays in England. He got attention thanks to his role in the West Coast production of Huck & Holden in 2006. The same year, he co-wrote the play Cotton Candy that premiered in New Delhi.
