Personal Life

He married Jamie Denbo in 2004. Denbo is also a comedienne. They have two kids. The actor got an English degree from Ithaca College.

Professional Life

In film, the actor debuted in 2000 in Road Trip. This would be followed by a variety of movie roles. These include Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story, What the Bleep Do We Know!?, Life of the Party, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, Because I Said So, Sex Drive, He’s Just Not That Into You, The Heat, Pet, Jumanji: The Next Level, and Bad Therapy.

He started out on television around the same time as his film debut. He appeared in Upright Citizens Brigade between 1999 and 2000 for three episodes. After that, Bowie had several small roles in series like Undeclared, Joan of Arcadia, CSI: NY, Charmed, Girlfriends, Las Vegas, Psych, Monk, Worst Week, Wizards of Waverly Place, Heroes, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Glee, Party Down, The Glades, Weeds, Burn Notice, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Death in Paradise, and others.

Between 2005 and 2008, he appeared in various roles across Reno 911! Additionally, he had a recurring role in Children’s Hospital between 2011 and 2012.

In 2011, Bowie was cast as Barry Kripke in The Big Bang Theory. His character would appear on a recurring basis throughout the show since this point until 2019, when it ended. Kripke appeared in twenty-five episodes of the series.  In Big Bang Theory, he worked alongside cast members Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Melissa Rauch, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, Kevin SussmanLaura Spencer, Brian George and Wil Wheaton.

In 2021, he got a regular part in three series: Generation, Feel Good, and United States of Al.

In addition to his work as an actor, Bowie is also a writer. He has written for some television projects, but also for Go Metric and The New York Press. He also authored a book about Heathers, the cult movie with Wynona Rider.

Trivia

With his co-star in The Big Bang Theory, Kevin Sussman, Bowie developed various comedy projects and even an animated pilot/TV movie titled Dark Minions, which they co-wrote and produced together, also starring as the main characters.

In addition to his acting, he is also something of a musician. He used to be part of the pop-punk band, Egghead. His bandmates were Mike Faloon and Michael M.B. Galvin.

He is a member of the Naked Babies, a comedy sketch group that also included Rob Corddry, Brian Huskey, and Seth Morris.

John Ross Bowie is the author of the play Four Chords and a Gun, which is about The Ramones and has been staged.

His wife Jamie Denbo is also an actress and a comedienne. She has taken parts in films like Heat and Spy, as well as series like F for Family and Kevin Can Go F*** Himself. Since 1998, she has been part of the Upright Citizens Brigade theater as a teacher and performer.
