Personal Life

The actor was born in Jerusalem, and his parents had Lebanese and Indian origins. Early in his life, his family moved to London and then to Toronto.

Professional Life

The actor has worked extensively doing television, film, and voiceovers. He has nearly 300 acting credits to his name.

He appeared in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Other notable film roles include Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Inspector Gadget, Keeping the Faith, Ghost World, Bubble Boy, and various voice roles for films like Batman & Mr Freeze: SubZero, Batman: Gotham Knight, and other DC animated films. He would also have voice roles in animated films like The Boxtrolls and Hotel Transylvania. In addition, he would voice Alfred Pennyworth in Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Batman: Killing Joke.

In the ’80s, George had his first recurring role, portraying Sgt. Paganee in several episodes of the children’s show The Edison Twins. He played Julian Bashir’s father in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He was in Seinfeld, portraying Babu Bhatt for three episodes. His character, deported due to the actions of the main characters, would return in the finale. After that, he was in Ellen, Doctor, Doctor, and more. He appeared in Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda as Vikram Singh Khalsa and in One Tree Hill.

The actor had a recurring role in The Big Bang Theory, where he portrayed the father of Raj Koothrappali, one of the main characters of the series. He made an appearance in fourteen episodes, often through a video call side by side with Koothrappali’s mother, expressing concern over their son.  In Big Bang Theory, he worked alongside cast members Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Melissa Rauch, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, Kevin SussmanLaura Spencer, Wil Wheaton and John Ross Bowie.

The actor has done extensive voiceover work for animated shows and video games. Some notable roles include gangster Jimmy Peake in Batman: The Animated Series, Duff Killigan in Kim Possible, Guru Pathik in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Parasite in Justice League, Invader Zim, and more. Some video game credits include Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur’s Gate, Ultimate Spider-Man, Everquest II, Final Fantasy XIV, and Mass Effect 3.

In 2013, he had a recurring role in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland as the Sultan of Agrabah.

He appeared in the Disney Channel show That’s So Raven and reprised his role for its spin-off show Raven’s Home, twelve years later.

In 2018, he received a main role in the sitcom I Feel Bad.

Between 2015 and 2022, he would have the recurring role of Arjun Avasarala in the Amazon Prime science fiction series The Expanse. The show adapted the book series of the same name and has received critical acclaim.
