The actress started her career as a model when she was just a child. Her film debut took place in 1992 in That Night. Two years later, she got her first leading role in My Father the Hero. Then, until 1998, she would appear in Wish Upon a Star, a Disney film, and Bride of Chucky.

In 1999, Heigl was cast as Isabel Evans in Roswell, the teen sci-fi show. Roswell would run until 2002. Later, Heigl would take a few more film parts and model for different magazines, including Maxim.

In 2005, the actress was cast as Izzie Stevens, a role that was very high-profile and would make her a household name. She would stay in the role until 2010, earning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress.

In 2008, she was in Knocked up, followed by other romantic comedies, such as 27 Dresses in 2008, The Ugly Truth in 2009, and others. In 2010, she left Grey’s Anatomy and has not appeared on the show since.

In 2014, the actress was cast in State of Affairs and, in 2017, in Doubt, two series that were canceled after just one season. She appeared on Suits for its last two seasons. Other cast members seen in Suits include Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Gina Torres, Meghan Markle, Amanda Schull, Wendell Pierce, Dulé Hill, David Costabile and DB Woodside.

Heigl was cast for Firefly Lane, a drama series on Netflix that has recently been renewed for a second season.

In Firefly lane, She was seen alongside cast members Ali Skovbye, Sarah Chalke, Ben Lawson, Roan Curtis, Yael Yurman, Andres Joseph, Beau Garrett, Brandon Jay Mclaren, Brendan Taylor, Chelah Horsdal, Jason Mckinnon, Jenna Rosenow, Jon Michael Ecker, Paul Mcgillion and Quinn Lord.

The first one came out in 2021 to warm critical reception. Firefly Lane is a series that is based on a novel of the same name by Kristin Hannah that tells the story of a friendship between two women that lasts for several decades and influences their lives in a major way.

The actress is expected to play Victoria Woodhull in an upcoming show titled Woodhull. She is also serving as the producer for this series.

In addition to her television and feature film work, Heigl has done voice work for The Nut Job, an animated feature, and its sequel, The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature.

The actress became somewhat infamous after she criticized Knocked Up and Grey’s Anatomy, eventually leaving the latter project. This earned her a bit of a bad rep, but Heigl has gotten back on top with several well-received roles and projects.

She met her husband when she appeared on a music video he did as a singer and songwriter in 2005.

Her character in Roswell shares a name with her character in Grey’s Anatomy (Isabel and Isobel, respectively). She played another similarly named character in Wuthering Heights.

The actress appeared in 120 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy before she was written out. This happened after she withdrew from Emmy consideration, citing the material she was given as being not that good.
