His early life and career beginnings

Macht was born to Jewish parents. He grew up in California from the age of five. 

He is the son of Suzanne Victoria Pulier and Steven Macht. 

His mother is a museum curator and activist, while his father is an actor. He has three siblings Jesse, Ari Serbin, and Julie.

Macht attended Beverly Hills High School and graduated in 1994 from Carnegie Mellon College of Fine Arts. In his college days, he became a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity.

Macht’s first role was in the film Why Would I Lie? in 1980 at age eight under the stage name Jorge. A movie that made him a nominee for the Best Young Motion Picture Actor Award.

In 1998, he acted in The Object of My Affection as Steve Casillo and The Adventures of Sebastian Cole as Troy. He proceeded in 1999 to appear as Charlie in Simply Irresistible.

His Professional Career

Macht appeared in many films like Simply Irresistible in 1999, The Bookie’s Lament, and 101 Ways (The Things a Girl Will Do to Keep Her Volvo) in 2000.

In 2001, he acted in Behind Enemy Lines as Navy Pilot Lieutenant Jeremy Smoke Stackhouse and co-starred in American Outlaws, an American Western alternate history film about the civil war. 

Macht portrayed Officer Seale in Bad Company, an action-comedy film. He also acted in The Recruit as Zack, an American spy thriller film in 2003. 

He also played the character of Gram Parsons in Grand Theft Parsons, a comedy-drama film about the true story of country-rock musician Gram Parsons who died of an overdose in 1973.

In 2008, he starred as Denny Colt in The Spirit, a superhero film that received many negative reviews and was a commercial failure.

He portrayed Trey Hannigan in the 2010 romantic comedy-drama film Love and Other Drugs and starred in S.W.A.T Firefight as Sgt. Paul Cutler, a 2011 action crime film. 

Macht has acted in many television series. He Portrayed Tal Weaver in an episode of the 1991 Beverly Hills, 90210.

He was The Naked Guy in the American sitcom television series Spin City. It was aired in 1996 and canceled in 2002.

He filmed an episode of Sex and the City as Barkley and in Wasteland as Luke. In 2000, he portrayed William Holden in The Audrey Hepburn Story and starred in The Others as Dr. Mark Gabriel. 

From 2011 to 2019, Macht produced and starred in Suits as Harvey Specter. The entertaining legal drama television series was well received and earned him a nominee for several awards. Other cast members seen in Suits include Sarah Rafferty, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Gina Torres, Meghan Markle, Amanda Schull, Wendell Pierce, Dulé Hill, Katherine Heigl, David Costabile and DB Woodside.
