As a little girl, Paula aspired to become an actress, playing dress-up while wearing her mother’s clothes and acting in her parents’ backyard.

Her life changed after she became friends with a guy who took her to see Do the Right Thing while still in high school. Afterward, she conceived the idea to create stereotypical stories and characters tailored to the black folks and succeeded in creating a few short films.

Paula attended Alexander Hamilton High School and did her first year at the University of California, after which she transferred to the University of Southern California’s Film School. After her graduation, she made documentaries for PBS.

Paula’s professional career life

The gorgeous actress started by working with musical artists as an additional vocalist and writer, providing vocals for Usher’s 2004 album Confessions, and Can You Handle It?. In 2005, she made her film debut in Hitch alongside Will Smith, followed by a 2005 drama film London and a 2006 musical film Idlewind.

Her breakthrough came in 2006 when she landed a lead role as Claire Kuchever in the American Science Fiction Action Film, Déjà Vu—starring alongside Denzel Washington, Jim Caviezel, and other notable actors. Even with the film’s mixed review, it was a box office hit garnering over $180 million globally.

Things took a positive turn of events, acting alongside Tom Cruise, Queen Latifah, Denzel Washington, Will Smith, and the likes.
She became a recognized successful actress, starring in various films, including Mirrors, Swing Vote, Previous, Just Wright, Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol, Jumping The Broom, Disconnect, 2 Guns, Baggage Claim, About Last Night, Warcraft, Four Kids and It, amongst other films.

Paula also appeared on television, acting in Murder Book, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Single Ladies, Sesame Street, Project Runway. She starred in the 2017 Somewhere Between, an adaptation of the Korean TV show Gods Gift: 24 Days.

Other remarkable achievements include ghostwriting, producing, becoming a nominee for several awards, and winning Best Cast for Boston Society of Film Critics Awards.

Her personal life

While attending an under 21 hip hop club, Paula met 14 years old recording artist Robin Thicke in Los Angeles. Thicke asked her to dance, singing Stevie Wonder’s Jungle Fever as they danced along. They began dating two years later, in 1991, and married on June 11, 2005.
The duo welcomed their son, Julian Fuego, on April 6, 2010; however, they announced their separation on 24th February 2014 after a long time together.
Paula officially filed for a divorce and joint custody in January 2017, but the judge denied her request. She was later granted her wish of sole custody and restraining order against Robin, following the detailed court documents of her ex’s domestic and drug abuse history.
