The actor married Cecilia Souza in 1964 and divorced her a decade later. In 1988, he married Joan Pirkle. He has two kids.

Professional Life

The actor started acting on stage. He began appearing in films and on TV in 1980 with a few small roles. In 1989, the actor appeared in Dead Poets Society as the strict father of one of the young students.

He appeared in RoboCop, where he portrayed Clarence Boddicker, an iconic role in an iconic film.

Between 1998 and 2006, the actor had a central role on That ’70s Show, where he played the father of Eric Forman, the old-fashioned and grumpy Red Forman. His character was very popular.

Kurtwood Smith met Joan Pirkle, his spouse of several decades, on the set of Robocop.
