Who is David Julian Hirsh?

David Julian Hirsh is a Canadian actor. He is best known for his roles in Hawthorne, the medical drama, Jupiter’s Legacy, the Netflix superhero show, and many other supporting and recurring parts.

Personal Life

The actor studied criminology, but an acting workshop changed his mind about his career. He studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.

Professional life

The actor debuted in 1998 in Nikita in a supporting role in a single episode. After that, he starred in the medical drama on TNT, Hawthorne.

He has appeared in different series and miniseries across various networks, including the comedy Naked Josh, Lovebites, St. Urbain’s Horseman, and Weeds.

In 2013, he appeared in a television film called Twist of Faith. This earned him a nomination for a Canadian Screen Award.

His debut in a feature film was in Blue Hill Avenue in 2001. Other notorious films he appeared in include Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Noel, The Trotsky, The Chicago 8, and 2018’s Swap.

On television, he has appeared on La Femme Nikita in 1998, followed by roles in Leap Years, Largo Winch, The Dead Zone, Lovebites, Cold Case, Ghost Whisperer, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, House of Lies, Touch, Weeds, Flashpoint, Motive, Grimm, Stalker, Rosewood, and Taken.

In 2021, Hirsh appeared on Jupiter’s Legacy. He played Dr. Richard Conrad, also known as Blue Bolt, and appeared on six episodes of this show that lasted one season. His character was one of the founders of the original group of superheroes and a doctor in his civilian life.

In Jupiter’s Legacy, he was seen alongside cast members Ben Daniels, Elena Kampouris, Gracie Dzienny, Ian Quinlan, Josh Duhamel, Kurtwood Smith, Leslie Bibb, Matt Lanter, Tyler Mane, Tenika Davis, Mike WadeMeg Steedle, Conrad Coates and Andrew Horton.

In addition to his work as an actor, Hirsh created Camp Hollywood, an acclaimed film about the people living in a dilapidated hotel in California, which earned him the Canadian Gemini Award as a producer. Camp Hollywood premiered in 2004 and was highly acclaimed. Hirsh appeared in the documentary, wrote it, and produced it as well. The documentary focused on the lives of a colorful cast of characters, such as a bank robber, living in an old hotel that had seen better days.

Trivia

This actor originally intended to become a lawyer and studied a related career until he took a summer workshop in acting, which pushed him in a new direction. As a result, he left his Criminology degree one credit shy of completion. Hirsh studied at McGill and the University of Toronto.

Hirsh often plays doctors and medical professionals, which includes quite a few of his roles, up to the one in Jupiter’s Legacy.

The actor speaks French.

Hirsh spends his time in Palm Springs, L.A., and Canada.

His role in Twist of Faith, where he appeared alongside Toni Braxton, earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the Canadian Screen Awards.

The actor has appeared in many supporting roles, but he was the leading man or part of the main character ensemble, too, specifically in Naked Josh, Jupiter’s Legacy, and Hawthorne.
