AuCoin is married to Carolyn Hall. She is an acclaimed dancer. The actor graduated from Oberlin College.
AuCoin debuted on television in several soap operas. He got roles in series like Guiding Light and The City. At the start of the 2000s, the actor started to appear in other types of television shows. First, he was in The Sopranos and Law & Order. In this series, he would go on to appear several times in different roles and would also be on various series. He also appeared in New Americans, Without a Trace, The Good Wife, Gossip Girl, other iterations of Law & Order, Blue Bloods, Elementary, The Following, Person of Interest, Unforgettable, and many more. In 2014, he got a breakthrough with his role in The Americans, appearing in a recurring capacity as Pastor Tim.
The next year, he was cast in House of Cards, the popular Netflix political drama. Then, in 2016, he was given the role of “Dollar” Bill Stearn in Billions, a drama series focused on financial crimes and wealth. Stearn would become a fan favorite and continue to appear throughout the show.
In addition, he would go on to appear in other series, such as The Slap, Forever, and others. He got several recurring roles in The Girl From Plainville and WeCrashed in 2021, The Bold Type in 2020, and Turn: Washington’s Spies.
He started appearing in films in 1998 with a small appearance in A Perfect Murder, but he would not receive a major role until 2007 in The Kingdom. After that, he was in Julie & Julia, False Positive, Complete Unknown, The Wizard of Lies, Drunk Parents, The Good House, and more.
In addition to his roles on screen, AuCoin has decades of stage work under his belt. He has appeared in productions like Julius Caesar, Cymbeline, and many others.
The actor is recognized for his sharp performance style and charisma. He has done dozens of plays on stage and has been recognized for the depth he brings to his on-screen characters as well.
Carolyn Hall, AuCoin’s wife, has received the Bessie Award for dance performance. She won the prize in 2002. In addition to her career in dance, Hall is professionally involved with Historical Marine Ecology and is a science popularizer.
For The Wayside Motor Inn, he won a Drama Desk Award for Signature Theatre’s revival of this play.
AuCoin used to be part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival acting company, a Tony Award-winning company.
The actor’s father, Les, is a former U. S. Representative. AuCoin’s first on-camera appearance was in his father’s commercial, as he was not willing to pay for another actor.
He is a devout Portland Trail Blazer fan.
