The actress debuted on stage in 2009, which earned her the Theatre World Award for Best Debut Performance in Ruined. In 2012, she was in Stick Fly and received a Tony Award nomination.

2016 saw Rashad begin her tenure in Billions. This drama series would continue for several seasons, and Rashad would remain a central part of the cast. She has appeared in 60 episodes in the role of Kate Sacker. Sacker is an Assistant to the Attorney General of New York. Her ultimate ambition is to become President, and she has other political goals, like running for Congress. Kate Sacker has been and continues to be a member of the main cast of Billions, which has received significant critical acclaim and a lot of fan attention.
In 2016, she was in Money Monster, which was directed by Jodie Foster, and in Complete Unknown, playing Sharon.
In 2017, she was in Bikini Moon. The same year she got her third Tony nomination for A Doll’s House, Part 2.
In 2018, the actress appeared in Come Sunday with Chiwetel Ejiofor. The next year she was in Good Posture. In 2018 as well, the actress was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for Saint Joan.
In 2021, Rashad voiced Meghan Markle in twelve episodes of The Prince.
Rashad has also been nominated for the Drama Desk Award in 2009 for Ruined and for The Trip to Bountiful in 2013.
