Wright married Dane Witherspoon in 1986. They divorced in 1988. In 1989, she started dating actor Sean Penn. They got married in 1996 and divorced in 20010 after several breakups. In 2012, she started dating actor Ben Foster. In 2015, they broke up permanently. In 2017, Wright started dating Clement Giraudet and married him the next year. Wright has two kids.

Robin Wright started modeling at 14. When she was 18, she was cast as Kelly Capwell in Santa Barabara, a role that would earn her various Daytime Emmy Award nominations. She left the show in 1988.
