Ben Koldyke is a popular actor, scriptwriter, and director. He also used to be an English teacher and football coach at a High School. He is most famous for playing Paul Edley in Master of Sex, Donald Bangs in The Finest Hour, Dick Slingbaugh in Back in the Game, Jimmy Hooper in Mr. Robinson, and Lee Standish in Work It. He has recently starred in Carol’s Second Act as Coach Dean and The Good Place as Brent Norwalk.

Personal Life

Koldyke was born in Illinois, United States, and was raised in nearby Kenilworth. His father, Martin J. Koldyke, is a founder of Frontenac Company based in Chicago. He was also a former investment banker and is a life trustee of Northwestern University. From his mother, Patricia Blunt koldyke’s side, Ben is a member of the family that handles Laird Norton Company, which is an investment company that has links with the Timber Industry of the Pacific Northwest.
After graduating from high school, Koldyke attended the esteemed Choate Rosemary Hall for post-graduation. For his bachelor’s degree, he went to Dartmouth College and graduated in 1991. At Dartmouth, he was a quarterback for the campus football team.
On August 8, 2015, Ben Koldyke married a fellow actress Maggie Lawson. Their wedding ceremony was held at his family’s ranch in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The couple met at the set of Back in the Game. But unfortunately, at the start of 2017, the couple got divorced staying married for two years.


Earlier in his life, Koldyke was a coach and a high school English teacher. He got a jump start with his acting career after a sudden encounter with Rob McElhenney, a creator and star of Tv show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Coincidentally, they were both regulars at the Venice café. One time, Koldyke wrote a note on Rob’s tab saying that his show was fantastic. Fortunately, just a few years later, this seamless exchange led to Ben’s first TV pilot, Boldly Going Nowhere for Fox.
When Boldly did not turn into a success, Koldyke went on to star in HBO’s series Big Love as Dale Tomasson and CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother as Don Frank.
In 2012, the actor was recruited as a lead character in the short ABC comedy-drama series, Work It. Later, he also made a guest appearance in HBO’s The Newsroom. In 2013, we saw him appear in another ABC sitcom, Back in the Game, alongside James Caan and Maggie Lawson. As for his more recent credits, he played the role of a teacher and football coach, Paul Edley, on Showtime’s series Masters of Sex. He also starred in the last season of The Good Place as a male chauvinist, Brent.
In 2016, fans saw Koldyke appear on the big screen as a supporting character on Disney’s The Finest Hour. Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Chris Pine, and Eric Bana also starred in the movie.
