He was born David Bryan Woodside and grew up in New York City. He graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a B.A. and later got an MFA from the Yale School of Drama. After his studies, he began acting in minor films and television roles until the major roles came his way.

The veteran actor has done many acting jobs, beginning in the 1990s. He landed an Aaron Mosley main role in 1996 in the American legal drama Murder One, which first aired on the ABC Network in 1995.
