Her early life and career beginnings

Rakhee Thakrar’s family is of Indian descent who emigrated to the Uk. She has two siblings, Shivam and Anuj, and has a pet cat Whiskoz. She attended Taylor Road Primary School and Soar Valley College in Leicester, England.

Rakhee started her on-screen life as a teenager. She worked with Hathi Productions, a theatre club in Leicester, England. She was among the twenty young people enrolled in the Leicester Mercury’s pathfinder scheme, where she spent ten months gaining knowledge on print journalism.

Her professional career life

Apart from her role in the Netflix series as Emily Sands in Sex Education, Rakhee has also acted in the popular BBC soap opera Eastenders where she played the role of Shabnam Masood (2014-2016). She moved on from Eastenders and played in an episode of Children in Need in the same year.

Thakrar made her debut in the acting industry with a radio drama Silver Street (2004), acting in all six seasons where she played the role of Roopa Chauhan, and it was on the BBC Asian Network.
In 2006, she appeared in a Television Film Banglatown Banquet, a drama about the lives of a group of Muslim women who left their Bangladeshi community on a journey, wearing their hijab. A short award-winning film Tourettes Haiku about a young woman who has Tourette’s syndrome and suffering from drug addiction and family issues, and also a short drama in 2007 called Circle.

She featured in some Tv series like Holby City, a British medical drama Tv series appearing in three episodes. A television sitcom Peep Show as a waitress, and a star in British-Asian drama Cloud 9 as Simran. In a series that showcases British-Asian values of family life and tradition, and portrayed Safeena Abbasi in Doctors, a British medical soap opera that airs on BBC One.

Rhakee Thakrar was in the successful British comedy show No Signal (2009), which broadcasted weekly from February to April.

She portrayed Rosie in the short film Love, Sex, and Side Effects released in London on February 16, 2018. In 2019, she participated in the Rom-com Four Weddings and a Funeral in a recurring role of six episodes.
In 2020, Rakhee Thakrar acted as Registrar in 23 Walks, a British Rom-com drama. She also portrayed Nasreen Shah in Criminal Uk in an episode.

Thakrar is also a journalist. During her time with Leicester Mercury’s Pathfinder Scheme, she wrote articles on The Influence Bollywood has had on Leicester and also about the peculiar situation of being born on 29 February. In 2019, the actress played Fatima in a recurring role of Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Rakhee is currently filming Wonka. It’s an upcoming musical fantasy film by Warner Brothers Pictures that will air in 2023.
She is a British Independent Film Festival Award Nominee (2017) and a British Soap Award Nominee (2016).
