In 2015, she was promoted to a series regular and was noted as the only prominent woman of color. However, this led to a backlash when Missandei died on the show, which received a lot of controversy due to the way it was framed, placing Missandei in chains, and the lack of other women of color in the series.
Missandei was a former slave who joined the service of Daenerys and who followed her, becoming one of her most trusted confidantes.
