Maria Thayer was born in the city of Portland, Oregon. She spent her early years living in the city of Boring, which is located east of Portland. Her parents owned a bee farm there. While Maria was still in childhood, her parents decided to relocate to Minnesota, where she attended the famous Apple Valley High School, located in Apple Valley, Minnesota, and she was also a member of award-winning forensics program for the National Forensic League, as well as snatching the Homecoming Queen award, Maria graduated an acting class at The Julliard School in New York.

Maria was previously dating actor David Kenneth Harbour, the pair was even engaged to one another, but in recent interviews, Maria has stated that they have come to see some incompatibilities in the relationship and have decided to just stay good friends and not pursue an intimate life together.
