Early life before fame

Leah Cairns was born in North Vancouver, British Columbia, and she grew up in the city of Kamloops. Leah dreamt of becoming a professional dancer, but her dreams were shattered when she broke her back in a car accident when she was just 16 years old. This prompted her to rethink her career path. After her dance team went to the international competition in her graduating year, instead of sitting at home, she decided to visit Costa Rica, she packed her bags and went on a trek which ultimately took her to over 36 countries, and she returned no less than eight years later.
Leah took an improvisation class at an ashram in India shortly before returning home to Canada, where she learned to act, which helped her to kickstart her career.

Acting career

Leah’s first breakout role came in Robson Arms (A Canadian television series airing from 2005 until 2008). After that, she got her first major role when Leah was cast as Jenna in the Canadian comedy-drama series Godiva’s. Later on, she joined the Battlestar Galactica cast as Rapot Pilot/ECO Racetrack at the very end of season one. Due to how impressive her performance was on the show, the showrunners decided to make Racetrack a recurring character for the rest of the series duration. During season three of Battlestar Galactica, Leah Cairns also portrayed Emily Hollander on the ABC’s family series Kyle XY, as well as appearing in the Canadian science fiction-fantasy series Sanctuary.
