Gisele was born to Vânia, a bank clerk pensioner, and Valdir Bündchen, a sociologist and writer.
She grew up with five sisters in a Roman Catholic family.
Gisele’s initial career goal was to become a volleyball player. Still, her mother enrolled her and her two sisters in a modeling course to develop confidence and good posture in 1993. During their trip after their modeling course, Elite Modeling Management scouted her at a shopping mall.
