Laura Harrier is an American actress and model. She is best known for portraying Liz in Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as her role in BlacKkKlansman.

Personal life

Harrier is a vegetarian and has been since childhood. She is a civil rights activist. She was with Klay Thompson, a basketball player, between 2018 and 2020.

Professional Life

Harrier debuted in film in 2014 in The Last Five Years. She would get a role in 4th Man Out as Dorothy Cuda in 2015. In 2016, she was in The Realest Real as Abby. In 2017, she was Liz in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

2018 saw her play Patrice Dumas in BlacKkKlansman, which earned her more recognition in the film scene. After that, she got the leading role in the indie film Balance, Not Symmetry, playing Caitlin Walker. In 2021, she played Sherri in The Starling.

One year before her first film role, in 2013, Harrier starred in One Life to Live, playing Destiny Evans. In 2014, she was in Unforgettable. She was Wylie in the pilot for Galyntine and also appeared in the pilot for Codes of Conduct, but both would remain unaired.

The actress has an African-American father and a mother of Ukrainian and English descent.

Harrier’s great-grandfather was the missionary and minister J. Waskom Pickett, who belonged to the Methodist religion.

Harrier was discovered as a model at the age of 17 thanks to a location scout who saw her coming home from school while doing a shoot at her place. The scout was a friend of her mother’s and asked her to call a studio, which resulted in her signing up and starting modeling at this young age. After that, she left modeling to pursue acting and study it professionally.

Harrier developed her acting skills at the William Esper Studio.

Her parents are a speech pathologist, in the case of her mother, and an insurance professional, in the case of her father. She describes her childhood as very Midwestern and very quaint as well.

The actress has openly supported different social causes, such as the Black Lives Matter movement, LGBTQ+ rights, and more. In addition, she often discusses her experience as a Black actress and as a person of mixed heritage in her personal and professional lives.
