Who is Richard Madden?
Richard Madden is a Scottish actor. He first made his actorial debut at the age of 11 when he appeared on screen in the 2000s film Complicity, playing Young Andy. He later performed on stage whilst being a student at the esteemed Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is also well remembered for playing Robb Stark in the globally famous fantasy drama series Game of Thrones (2011-2013).

Early life before fame:
Richard Madden was born outside the city of Glasgow in a small village called Elderslie. He grew up alongside two sisters. His father worked as a firefighter while his mother was a primary school teacher. At age 11m Richard joined the PACE Youth Theatre so he could overcome his shyness. The same year, he was cast as young Andy in the film adaptation of Lian Banks’ novel Complicity, released in 2000. His next role came playing the lead role of Sebastian in the television series Barmy Aunt Boomerang. The series aired for two years (1999-2000). Madden also struggled with body insecurities as a child. Coupled with his shyness, this was a big hurdle for him to overcome. Richard has also stated that he experienced bullying in school. For his role in Complicity, high schoolers were ruthless towards him.
Professional life and breakthrough:
Madden received the casting role of a lifetime when he was cast in the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones as Robb Stark. The series is based upon the massively popular novel, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. His role as Robb Stark propelled Richards’s career. He received numerous awards for his role as Robb Stark, some of which was Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series (2011-2013).
Richard also appeared on the Channel 4s comedy-drama series Sirens, as well as the BBC series Birdsong.
Richard also portrayed Prince Kit in Cinderella, a live-action adaptation of the animated film Cinderella. He was scared of playing such a character, as it was a classical fairy tale; therefore, he felt some weight on his shoulders to portray the character well. But he found comfort in the fact that others had very little knowledge of who the prince in the animated film series was. In 2016 Richard appeared in the American pickpocket thriller Bastille Day. He also played the lead role in the first season of the Italian-British television drama series Medici.
His latest roles:
In 2019 Madden was cast as John Reid in the Elton John film Rocketman, released in May. He also appeared in Sam Mendes’ war film 1917, where he played a soldier. He received positive reviews when it came to his performance.
He was also cast as Ikaris in the massively popular Marvel Cinematic Univer superhero film Eternals.
Personal life:
He was recognized for the yearly award of GQ Men of the Year Awards for Hugo Boss Most Stylish Man in 2019 and featured in the Time 100 list of the 100 most influential people in the World.
