Who is Alexander Ferns?

Alexander Ferns is a veteran Scottish actor. He is best known for his role in EastEnders, one of the most popular soap operas in Britain, and on River City, another popular Scottish soap.

Personal Life

Ferns married Jennifer Woodburne in 1996. He has two kids.

Professional Life

The actor started his career in 1996, appearing in The Ghost and the Darkness and Rhodes. In addition, he had one-off roles on various shows, such as Psychos, The Bill, Taggart, and more. In 2000, he was cast as Trevor Morgan on EastEnders and would continue to play the character until 2002. Morgan became very popular after his original appearance, so his role was made bigger, and he became the main antagonist for the show. He was described as the most-hated soap villain in Britain throughout his run and received different accolades, such as the British Soap Award for Best Newcomer.

In 2004, he played leading man Martin Brooke in Making Waves, and also in Man Dancin’, which was an acclaimed film production. In addition, he had a role on Coronation Street.

In 2005, he appeared in Joyeux Noël, a trilingual film that received Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominations as Best Foreign Language Film. In 2006, he was opposite Steven Seagal in Shadow Man.

Ferns appeared in Celebrity Coach Trip with Ricky Groves, a real-life friend. Celebrity Coach Trip is a reality show that follows celebrities on a journey across Continental Europe as they get voted off and leave the tour throughout the 20-30 days it takes. In 2014, he was in 24: Live Another Day, and in Vera and Wallander.

Between 2017 and 2018, he played Rick Harper on River City. This was a recurring character. River City is one of the most popular Scottish soap operas.

In 2019, he played Andrei Glukhov, the leader of the miners in Chernobyl. This miniseries from HBO was highly acclaimed, and his performance earned him a BAFTA Scotland Award. His role was very memorable, thanks to his earnest performance.

In 2021, he was in The Irregulars, a Netflix production playing Vic Collins.

Ferns appears as Gotham Police Commissioner Pete Savage in the 2022 release The Batman. He is also set to appear in the upcoming series The Devil’s Hour.

Trivia

The actor spent almost two decades in South Africa and was part of the South African Defence Force for two years. He was reportedly a force of nature and hell-raiser.

Ferns studied drama in South Africa too at the University of Cape Town.

The actor has been in various acclaimed theatre productions.

In addition to the BAFTA and the British Soap Awards, Ferns earned a CinEuphoria Award for his performance in Chernobyl, shared with the ensemble cast in 2020.
