Fresh: A Multigenre Journey Through Life, Art, and Oakland Roots
Music often becomes a collection of moments, memories, and emotions that stay connected across time. Fresh by Israel Michael captures that feeling through a diverse set of songs that reflect different chapters of his life, creative growth, and personal experiences.
Blending alternative influences, rock energy, hip-hop elements, and instrumental storytelling, the album offers listeners a deeply personal journey while remaining open to individual interpretation.
The Vision Behind Fresh
Fresh is a multigenre constellation of songs, with every track carrying its own unique story and background. Rather than following a single musical formula, the album embraces variety and creative freedom. Each composition feels like a snapshot from a different period in Israel Michael’s life, connected through honest expression and artistic curiosity.

The album features an eclectic collection of tracks, including Heart Farewell, Banana Cream, Flossin’, 000, Rosewood Forest, Magnificent, Myself, Midnight, Sayoko, Diamond Echo, Monarch, Fallen Angel, Hysteria, Tidal (Instrumental), Loyal Tea (Instrumental), and Babygirl (Instrumental).
Together, these songs create a listening experience that moves between reflection, imagination, emotion, and experimentation. Some tracks invite deep contemplation, while others celebrate creativity with playful energy. The instrumental pieces add another layer to the project, allowing melodies and arrangements to communicate stories without words.
A Self-Made Artist Shaped by Oakland
Israel Michael is a Bay Area artist who proudly embraces his Oakland roots. As a lyricist, guitarist, producer, composer, and vocalist, he has built his career through dedication, persistence, and a commitment to authenticity. Every song released under his name has been composed, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by him.
Friends know him as Izzy, and his creative philosophy is straightforward. He creates music that he finds beautiful. Sometimes his work is lighthearted and fun. At other times, it explores themes that demand deeper reflection. What remains constant is his belief in being truthful through art.
His musical journey began during high school and early influences included bands such as the Ramones, The White Stripes, and Led Zeppelin. As his skills developed, he immersed himself in studying legendary musicians including Prince, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Page. Through careful observation and practice, he gradually shaped a sound that became distinctly his own.
Music, Education, and Community Impact
Beyond music, Israel Michael has dedicated significant energy to serving his community. His commitment to Oakland’s youth inspired him to pursue a career in education while studying jazz and classical music theory in college.
He worked as a mathematics teacher for students across the Bay Area in both public and private schools. Helping young people understand educational pathways and meet eligibility requirements for California universities gave him a strong sense of purpose. For him, education represented another form of empowerment, one that could open doors and create opportunities for future generations.
That same desire to uplift others extends into his music career. Israel is the co-owner of Haphazardous Records, a label created with the goal of bringing local artists together and amplifying voices that often remain unheard. He believes underground musicians deserve opportunities to share their stories with wider audiences, and he hopes to use the label as a platform that encourages collaboration, growth, and artistic independence.
One life-changing experience reinforced his commitment to creating music. While playing guitar, a friend shared that one of his songs had helped save their life. The impact of that conversation stayed with him. Knowing that his music had provided hope during a difficult time strengthened his belief in the power of artistic expression. It also became a reminder that creative work can reach people in ways that extend far beyond entertainment.

We had the privilege of interviewing the artist. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
“I am Israel Michael, my friends call me Izzy. I create music that I find beautiful. Sometimes my music is silly, sometimes it’s too serious for others to handle, and that’s okay. My message is true. I composed, created, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered all of the songs I’ve released so far.”
Please tell us about your journey.
“I learned guitar during high school when my close friends handed me a guitar from their music class. I started with Ramones, White Stripes and Led Zeppelin covers. I studied Prince, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Paige’s solos and kind of made my own sound from there. I care very much about helping out the youth of Oakland, so I decided to pursue a career in education while studying jazz and classical music theory in college. I used to teach mathematics to the youth of the Bay Area at public and private schools. Helping students understand their requirements to be eligible to attend UC and CSU made me feel like I was making a difference in the Bay. While playing my guitar, a friend of mine told me that my song saved their life. It was at that moment I knew I had to keep making music. Like… my music prevented suicide, and because of that, there is new life growing up to this day. I know my music will continue to inspire others to pursue their dreams and create art.”
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
“Practice is everything. If I’m not practicing guitar, I’m practicing lyrics. I’ve kept my eyes on the pages of my books, I stay friendly and keep it real with those who are real with me. I was lucky enough to be gifted with a musical mindset, and I have the patience to take music that I hear and feel within myself and create it. I am thankful for my family and friends. Strategy also isn’t everything – I was lucky enough to have the support of my family and friends. Especially my mom, dad, and Nana.”
