Born on July 27th, 1998, in the lively city of Saint Louis, Missouri, Shea Duffy—whom many now know as InSight The Rapper—found his passion for poetry at a remarkably young age. Growing up amidst the rich musical heritage of his hometown, he was naturally drawn to the rhythms and stories woven into hip-hop music. It wasn’t long before he started blending his poetic words with beats, discovering a unique voice that resonated with those around him.
Overcoming Adversity: A Journey of Resilience
But life wasn’t always smooth sailing for InSight. He faced significant hardships, including poverty and battling drug addiction. These challenges could have derailed his dreams, but instead, they became the fuel that propelled him forward. Remarkably, he overcame these obstacles one after the other. This November 5th marks five years since he’s been clean from all drugs—a milestone that he doesn’t take lightly. We had the privilege of interviewing InSight The Rapper. Here are excerpts from the interview.
Hi, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.
Hi, I was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 27, 1998. I’ve dealt with hardships in the form of poverty and drug addiction, both of which were beaten simultaneously, one after another. I am going on five years clean off all drugs November 5, which is why that is a big part of my movement to help get people off drugs. I am officially making my stats in Missouri to be one of Missouri’s not only top lyricist, but one of Missouri’s top artists all together.
What inspires your music?
My music is a mix; sometimes, I like to be a little more on the entertaining side, and sometimes, I’m trying to figure out ways to improve my listener’s intelligence and even mental health. More than anything, my music promotes the movement that knowledge is power. I get a lot of respect and also a lot of hate for my music, so it’s played pretty well from both sides, but I would like to let people know that my drug addiction from five years ago has nothing to do with the artwork and the talent that I’m able to put into these tracks.
Thank you so much for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
