Multi-Talented Musician ‘Dee Martin’ Blends Hip Hop and R&B on ‘Nights in the Future’

An evening out can carry a lifetime of expectations. For Dee Martin, that possibility becomes the setting for ‘Nights in the Future,’ a debut mixtape shaped by imagined adventures, complicated relationships, and the desire to feel understood.

Released on October 16, 2026, the project spans 10 tracks and 25 minutes and 22 seconds. Its new age hip hop and R&B direction introduces an artist drawing on a musical education that began in church and a personal journey stretching from Angola to Houston. Behind the nightlife concept sits a straightforward ambition: he wants to work hard and become the best artist he can be.

The Places That Shaped His Perspective

Dee’s relationship with identity has developed through movement. Born in Cabinda, Angola, he arrived in Houston at nine, left at thirteen, and moved to Windhoek, Namibia, at fourteen. Through his teenage years, he traveled between Namibia and Angola. He returned to Houston at twenty-one, carrying experiences that continue to influence his creative direction.

Houston occupies an important place in that story. Although Portuguese is his first language, Dee associates his time in the Texas city with formative years of understanding himself. English became another language through which he could communicate his ideas. His connection to several cultures gives him a broad collection of experiences to draw from as he considers the artist he wants to become.

Namibia brought another lasting influence. There, he fell in love with South African house music and kwaito, expanding his sense of what music could feel like. He hopes that continued practice will help him bring his influences together into something distinctive. That ambition remains a work in progress, driven by curiosity and his willingness to develop the abilities he’s accumulated.

A Mixtape Imagined Like a Movie

‘Nights in the Future’ grew from Dee’s picture of how his life might unfold. He describes a cinematic world that exists after dark, filled with people he loves, parties, attraction, and uncertain decisions. Money, drugs, betrayal, redemption, heartbreak, and renewed love all figure into the concept. The imagined experience moves through pleasure and its emotional consequences.

One scenario places him in the nightlife with a girl and her friends, unsure where the evening or their connection will lead. There’s a recognizable vulnerability in that uncertainty. The setting allows him to explore the wish to enjoy the moment while carrying questions about relationships and the future.

Dee points to ‘Nights’ as the song that captures the mixtape’s overall experience. Closing the tracklist at three minutes and fifteen seconds, it brings listeners to the piece he considers central to the release. ‘Sober,’ the opening track, approaches the project’s emotional concerns through the subject of escape.

His explanation of ‘Sober’ centers on people using drugs to create temporary relief while privately struggling with everyday panic. They’re trying to imagine a life that feels satisfying, and the search can become a repeating cycle. That perspective adds context to the mixtape’s fast living: the desire for enjoyment exists alongside unresolved distress.

About Artist Dee Martin

Based in Houston, Dee began learning music at fourteen through his religious community. His early training included composing, singing, guitar, piano, trumpet, and alto horn. He also developed the ability to play other brass instruments, crediting his faith community for the foundation that made this learning possible.

He started making beats at twenty and began working on rapping and singing around twenty-five. Freestyling had already been a natural creative outlet throughout his life. Those experiences have given him several ways to approach expression, and he’s now working toward bringing them into a clearer artistic identity.

Acceptance matters deeply to him. Dee wants listeners to recognize someone who shares their hopes, enjoys laughter, and faces difficult days. He’s described feeling emotionally worn down even while smiling and joking, and he hopes a connection with his audience can help him rediscover joy and love.
