Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Krysti, founder and CEO of KNB Cosmetics. KNB Cosmetics offers Luxury Shades that cater to multi-faceted strong women who wear several hats each day!
Please tell us something about yourself.
I always hated working a regular job. I would always find issues with the way companies were run, and I knew one day I would have my own company, and now I have created KNB Cosmetics. It’s my baby.
How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey.
One thing that made me want to sell sunglasses was the fact that there were never any real show-stopping sunglasses in regular retail stores. They were all generic and looked like motorcycle shades. I hated it. The most popping ones were in all the high-end stores like Chanel and Fendi. I wanted to have stylish, trendy shades while also having an affordable price tag.
Who are your role models?
My role models are Beyoncé and Teyana Taylor.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is the fact that I want to create a legacy. I want to start a dynasty so that my kids and grandkids will finish it. What I’m doing with KNB cosmetics today is only scratching the surface of what I want it to be doing in 5-10 years.
What’s your most memorable experience?
My most memorable experience is how I came up with the name for my business. I knew I wanted to start a business, but I felt like I couldn’t start until I found a name that truly fits. One day I was at home lying on my bed, and it just came to me. KNB Cosmetics! The initials are for Krysti-which is me, Niani-my best friend who passed away, and Beverly- which is my late mother’s name. The main people who influenced me in this life will have a permanent spot in my legacy. I stayed up past midnight buying my domain name, setting up my shop, and creating my logo. It just felt right, and I knew from that moment on it was no turning back, this is my passion. I love what I do and love watching it grow.
Which social media channels work best for promoting your work?
When I promote my work, I usually use trending young YouTubers or fashionistas that are 28 years and younger.
What’s your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is giving up. Running a business alone can get tough and seem like the to-do list is never-ending.
Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
Looking back, I wish I knew that nothing has to be perfect. I took forever to launch my website because I wanted it to be perfect, but it’s not about that. It’s important to focus on getting your clients, and you can tweak everything else as you go. That’s what I do now. I focus on building an audience rather than perfecting a website with no audience.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Research. Me knowing to research saved me tons of money. And outsourcing. I delegate and don’t try to do everything myself. If I know I’m not good at something, I will pay someone to do it right. That has put me in front of my competition as far as websites, customer service, and production times are concerned.
What keeps you going when things get tough?
What keeps me going is looking at random orders that I have received. When I started out only family and friends ordered from me, now people from all over the world orders from me and I have so many repeat customers. That motivates me to keep going because I know there are people who love my brand and appreciate what I’m doing.
