Discovering Your Blueprint: The House of Self-Competence
Ever felt you’re just drifting along, unsure of your path or inner strength? Susanne and Arne Salig’s insightful book, The Self-Competence Blueprint – Understand Yourself, Strengthen Your Life, introduces an empowering framework designed to help you reconnect deeply with yourself. Developed through their extensive work with over 1,000 individuals, their approach is refreshingly practical and rooted in real-life therapeutic experiences.
Rather than offering surface-level tips, this book gives you a clear, structured blueprint: The House of Self-Competence. Imagine your personal growth like building a house—each stage essential and carefully ordered. With five key building blocks—self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-empowerment, self-care, and self-worth—you’ll create a sturdy foundation for lasting emotional wellbeing and inner peace.

Building Your Inner Foundation
It all starts with self-awareness. The first building block encourages you to understand your true self without filters or judgment. Through straightforward yet deeply reflective exercises, the Saligs gently guide you to see yourself with clarity. By recognizing your strengths, weaknesses, emotions, and desires, you begin forming a compassionate, realistic view of yourself—setting the stage for meaningful change.
Once you have clarity, self-acceptance naturally follows. This is about embracing your whole self. The authors provide thoughtful practices designed to quiet your inner critic. Instead of constantly judging yourself, you’ll learn how to genuinely accept and appreciate who you truly are right now. This nurturing approach brings relief and lays the groundwork for authentic growth.
Empowerment and Daily Self-Care
With awareness and acceptance solidified, the book next addresses self-empowerment. It’s one thing to know yourself, another to confidently take charge of your life. The Saligs show you how to balance personal responsibility with compassion, so you avoid the burnout trap. Practical exercises help you develop courage, set realistic goals, and gently hold yourself accountable—without overwhelming pressure.
Integrating self-care into daily life is another essential step. Contrary to popular myths, self-care is a necessity. Simple yet powerful daily habits shared in the book transform your routine from mundane to nourishing. By consistently prioritizing your wellbeing, you’ll find yourself energized, happier, and better equipped to face life’s ups and downs.
Cultivating Your Inner Worth
At the pinnacle of the model stands self-worth—the roof of your emotional house. Developing a robust sense of worth is transformative, yet it often feels elusive. The Saligs demystify this crucial element with easy-to-follow methods. You’ll explore how to consistently recognize your intrinsic value, independent of achievements or external validation. This internal assurance brings genuine inner peace and resilience.
What sets The Self-Competence Blueprint apart is its clear structure and thoughtful sequencing. The book doesn’t just tell you what you should do—it reveals exactly how and when to do it. Like constructing a real home, inner development needs solid foundations before moving upward. Each chapter logically flows into the next, ensuring you build a strong, lasting inner framework.
Why It Matters Now

We had the privilege of interviewing the author, Arne Salig. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
My name is Arne Salig, and I’ve been a psychological consultant since 1999. For over two decades, I’ve supported individuals, teams, and leaders in navigating life transitions, inner blocks, and emotional growth. My focus is on self-competence – the inner strength and clarity we need to live with authenticity, resilience, and purpose.
Please tell us about your Book.
The book is called “The Self-Competence Blueprint – Understand Yourself. Strengthen Your Life.”
It’s not another self-help guide full of surface-level tips. It’s a practical, compassionate, and deep framework that shows how true inner change begins. We present the Self-Competence Model, developed through years of therapeutic work with over 1,000 people. The model is structured like a house: built on self-awareness, supported by self-acceptance and self-empowerment, and crowned by self-worth.
This book helps you understand yourself – and gives you real tools to grow from the inside out.
Please tell us about your journey.
My passion for psychology began early. My grandfather helped build the psychiatric library at the University Hospital in Hamburg-Eppendorf – and I grew up surrounded by books on the human mind. That fascination never left me.
Over the years, I worked in clinical settings, in companies, and with private clients. Again and again, I saw how people longed not just for answers – but for a deep reconnection with themselves.
Together with my wife Susanne and psychologist Melanie Theissler, I developed the Self-Competence Model – and now, our mission is to make it accessible worldwide.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Curiosity and compassion – I never stopped asking questions, and I deeply care about what people carry inside.
Making things simple without making them shallow – Our model translates complex psychology into something people can actually use.
Staying authentic – I only teach what I live myself. Growth doesn’t require perfection – it requires presence.
Any message for our readers
There’s nothing wrong with you. You don’t need to become someone else to live a meaningful life.
You just need to become more you.
Self-competence is not about fixing yourself – it’s about meeting yourself. And that’s where everything changes.
Thank you so much, Arne, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
