Daisy’s Secret is a new book by author Keze Whitlow. It is a sweet children’s book focusing on the world of zoo animals. Let’s discover what lies behind it with a short discussion with Whitlow herself.
Hi, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about what it is that you do.
I am an award-winning chef and now an award winning author. I’ve won many awards in my career as a chef including MRA 2015 chef of the year, but in 2016, I got a diagnosis that left me unable to work.
Please tell us more about your journey.
It was a big adjustment for me, of course, but something that led directly to me becoming an author was that my son did not understand what was happening. He was ten at the time. So, I wanted to explain it to him in a way he could understand through a children’s story. I enjoyed writing it so much I wanted to keep going, and this led me to Daisy’s Secret, my first children’s book! I have also written Daisy and The Kitchen Rescue Squad which is available on Amazon. I look towards my journey as something very much still in progress.
Please tell us more about your book, Daisy’s Secret.
Daisy’s Secret is focused on a kind little elephant who learns that the zoo will build a new community center, which just thrills her, as she loves helping. But Daisy also has a secret challenge that she is afraid of sharing with her friends, especially with her best friend Ruben. Daisy is afraid of letting others down and is looking for the courage to share her truth with others and not feel so afraid to disappoint them. Daisy’s Secret takes readers on a heartwarming journey about secret struggles and finding community.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Find what you enjoy and do it. And if you lose it, find it again. I faced this with my transition from an award-winning chef to something quite new. Today, I found new joys and paths that I would have never considered before.
I had to believe in myself and let go of the ideas and words of others that hurt me. I could just block them out and keep going. This allowed me to finish this book and get it out there, share it with many other people.

Your plan in life is not God’s plan for your life. So just continue to do your best in any stage of life that you are, and let God handle the rest. This is something I have lived by, and it’s worked out for me!
