Dorit Kiperwas Kashman’s My Dad Lives in Heaven Offers Grieving Families the Gift of Hope and Healing

A Heartwarming Tale of Healing: “My Dad Lives in Heaven”

Dealing with grief is tough at any age—especially for kids. In her touching children’s book, My Dad Lives in Heaven, author Dorit Kiperwas Kashman beautifully navigates this challenging topic through a deeply personal, true-life experience. Written with warmth and compassion, Dorit transforms her family’s grief into an uplifting story of comfort and connection.

A Story Rooted in Real Life

The heart of this book lies in a real and profound event in Dorit’s own family. After losing her son in 2015, Dorit saw her young grandsons—then aged 8, 6, and just a toddler—struggle with the overwhelming grief of losing their father. Driven by a desire to help her grandchildren, particularly Liam, the youngest, Dorit channeled her own compassionate, holistic approach to grief into a simple yet powerful narrative.

In the story, Liam finds himself overwhelmed, crying out for his dad. Here, the comforting presence of his grandmother gently guides him through the difficult emotions he faces. Through her sensitive storytelling, Dorit opens the door for Liam—and readers alike—to discover a special new way to stay connected with loved ones who have passed. Rather than simply saying goodbye, Liam learns to feel his father’s presence in a new, comforting way.

Universal Appeal and Comfort

Although Dorit specifically crafted the narrative for children aged four to eight, her gentle yet insightful storytelling speaks volumes to readers of all ages. Adults navigating their own grief will also find solace in the genuine emotion and warmth radiating from every page.

Importantly, My Dad Lives in Heaven offers not just a comforting story, but also practical encouragement. It teaches children—and reassures adults—that the bonds we have with loved ones continue to exist, even when they’re not physically present. Dorit’s own holistic background shines throughout, as the narrative embraces compassion, sensitivity, and a sense of spiritual continuity.

A Multicultural, Heartfelt Offering

One delightful aspect of this beautiful book is its multilingual availability. Dorit ensured that her comforting words reached a wider audience by making the story accessible in English, Spanish, and Hebrew. This thoughtful approach mirrors her personal experiences—born and raised in Argentina, Dorit also spent significant periods in Israel and now resides in Southern California.

The multicultural depth adds an additional layer of connection for diverse families facing similar situations. Dorit’s personal journey, from grieving mother to comforting grandmother, enhances the authenticity and emotional resonance of the book.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please tell us about your Book.

The book is a true story about my three grandsons ages, 8, 6 & 1.5, their father/my son who passed away and me, a mother and grandmother who tried to help her little grandkids, especially the youngest after they lost their dad (my son).

It’s about coping with grieving and loss for kids and their families.

It’s to give comfort while showing an encouraging approach to staying connected with a loved one after they passed away, learning to stay connected in a different way.

The hero of my story is a little boy who found this special way with the help of her grandmother’s holistic approach.

The story is defined for kids ages 4/5 to 8, but it can also be appropriate for adults going through grief and sadness after losing a loved one.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

The grandma (me) used her holistic and spiritual (nonreligious) approach to teach her little grandson how to stay connected with his dad, just in a different way…

Any message for our readers

Grieving after the loss of a parent at an early age is painful and difficult to cope with, but we can still stay connected with them in a different way than the way we were used to before they left us and find comfort and peace.

Thank you so much, Dorit, for taking the time to speak with us. We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
