From Royalty to Survival
“Long Story Short: One Family, One Fate, And A Fight To Live” by Reem Hasaballah is no ordinary memoir. Born into luxury, Reem’s early years were filled with marble halls and privileges—until war shattered everything familiar. Her life took a drastic, gut-wrenching turn from comfort to chaos, highlighting a stark reality few could imagine. Each page plunges readers into her dramatic escape with her mother through devastating terrains—mud-soaked roads, barren deserts, treacherous rivers, and suffocating ships. The journey doesn’t spare the grim details; siblings lost, the painful pangs of starvation, and relentless fear become vividly real.
This isn’t merely the tale of survival—it’s a raw narrative soaked in emotional truths. Reem illustrates, with striking clarity, what losing everything truly means and the strength required to keep moving forward despite unimaginable pain.
A Powerful Tribute to Maternal Courage
One of the most profound aspects of “Long Story Short” is Reem’s portrayal of her mother’s unyielding determination. Throughout the unimaginable hardship, her mother emerges not just as a protector, but as a beacon of hope. The fierce maternal instinct to shield her child from the horrors surrounding them leaps from every sentence, creating a heart-rending yet empowering depiction of parental love.
Readers don’t just witness her mother’s strength; they feel it. The narrative becomes a tribute to every mother who has faced overwhelming odds, sacrificing everything to ensure the safety of her children. Reem’s powerful storytelling highlights how deeply the threads of family and love intertwine—even when death seems inevitable.
Unfiltered Reality and Silent Scars
“Long Story Short” isn’t a sanitized account of tragedy; it’s unfiltered, honest, and sometimes brutal. Reem courageously confronts painful truths, allowing readers a glimpse into experiences often silenced or forgotten. The vivid recounting of her journey ensures readers understand the physical and emotional costs of war. It’s a reminder that survival often leaves invisible scars long after the world has turned its gaze elsewhere.
By sharing her story, Reem becomes a voice for the countless others who’ve endured similar fates but never had the opportunity to speak. She conveys their suffering, resilience, and humanity with an authenticity that demands attention. Her willingness to openly share these harrowing experiences bridges gaps of understanding and compassion, making the memoir a powerful tool for awareness and healing.

Hi, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.
Hello, my name is Reem Hasaballah, and I am an accomplished academic with a multifaceted background and deep life experience shaped by years lived across various countries and cultures. My professional journey has taken me through dentistry and marketing—two fields that have taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of human connection. Today, I add a new chapter to my story as a published author.
Please tell us about your book.
Long Story Short is my debut book and the first in what will be a powerful series. It is a raw, unfiltered testament to the realities of war, the brutal price of survival, and the silent scars that remain long after the world has moved on. This book isn’t just about me. It speaks for the many souls who endured unimaginable pain and never had the chance to share their stories. I consider myself a vessel for their voices.
Please share your journey with our readers.
For years, I carried the weight of this story, unsure of how or even if I could ever tell it. Healing had to come first. Then, one unexpected day, while working on a set, I felt a spark. I approached one of the producers with a rough idea of what I was writing. They asked to see a sample. In a moment of boldness, I ran backstage, quickly jotted down six raw, heartfelt lines, and handed it over. Their reaction was unforgettable. Shocked, moved, and silent at first, all they could say was, “Please write this. It needs to be read.”
That moment gave me the courage to begin, but it wasn’t a smooth journey. I knew nothing about the publishing world or how to structure a book. I faced countless challenges, writer’s block, self-doubt, and the emotional toll of reliving painful memories. I paused often, diving into research, watching endless videos, and joining online writing communities just to find my footing again.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Writing this book has been one of the hardest yet most rewarding things I’ve ever done. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that starting is never easy, but with patience and determination, even the heaviest story can find its voice.
Thank you so much for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
