In Shattered Faerie Tales: Rise of the Heirs, author AdriAnn Manos takes readers on a thrilling journey through a world where the beloved fairy tale queens we’ve grown up with are far from benevolent. Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Rapunzel now rule their kingdoms with iron fists, casting aside the ideals of kindness and virtue. The book dives deep into the consequences of power and legacy, asking a crucial question: what happens when those once seen as heroes turn into tyrants, and the next generation must rise to challenge them?
Manos’ debut novel presents a complex and fascinating twist on fairy tales that are rich in nostalgia, but in Shattered Faerie Tales, it’s not about “happily ever after” anymore. Instead, it’s a story of rebellion, choices, and the battle between destiny and free will, all wrapped in a fantasy setting with deeply human emotions.
The Struggle of the Next Generation
The heart of Shattered Faerie Tales is Rose, the strong-willed daughter of Snow White, who stands in direct opposition to her mother’s authoritarian rule. Snow White, now cold and commanding, forbids Rose from marrying her true love, simply because he’s the son of the Evil Queen. In Manos’ hands, familiar fairy tale characters take on new dimensions, their motivations no longer clear-cut. The charming princes and innocent maidens are gone, replaced by queens and kings who wield power with little regard for the happiness of their children.
Rose is at the center of a movement, not just rebelling against her mother, but seeking to unite the heirs of all the major kingdoms against their oppressive parents. She teams up with the very villains who once terrorized the realms, forming an unexpected alliance with the Evil Queen and other infamous adversaries of the fairy tale world. This bold decision challenges the traditional good-versus-evil narrative, turning it on its head. Manos expertly crafts a world where heroes and villains are not who they seem, and where the next generation must decide their own fate.
Themes of Rebellion and Identity
At its core, Shattered Faerie Tales explores themes of rebellion and identity. Rose’s fight against her mother’s oppressive rule isn’t just about love—though that’s a key motivator—it’s about autonomy. The forced arranged marriages represent much more than just controlling relationships; they are symbolic of the constraints placed on individuals by family, society, and tradition.
Manos crafts a compelling narrative that encourages readers to question authority, challenge outdated norms, and embrace personal freedom. Rose’s rebellion is a metaphor for the struggle many young people face when trying to carve their own path in life, away from the expectations set by their predecessors. The novel echoes the universal theme of wanting to break free from the roles that society tries to force individuals into, and Rose’s alliance with the villains adds depth to this, showing that sometimes, allies can be found in the most unlikely places.

Secrets, Power, and Betrayal
As Rose leads her rebellion, she uncovers long-hidden secrets that have the potential to change everything. These secrets don’t just threaten the balance of power in the kingdom but also shake the foundation of Rose’s beliefs about her family and her place in the world. Manos uses these revelations to create tension and surprise, keeping readers on edge as the plot unfolds. The stakes are high, and the betrayals hit hard, adding layers of complexity to the characters and their relationships.
The rise of a new power and a devastating betrayal take the story in unexpected directions. Readers are left wondering whether Rose and her allies can truly escape the cycle of control and manipulation that has dominated their lives. Manos masterfully weaves in these elements to raise the emotional intensity, as the characters must not only fight external forces but also confront their own inner conflicts.
A Story of Empowerment and Growth
Shattered Faerie Tales: Rise of the Heirs is more than just a fairy tale retelling—it’s a story of growth, empowerment, and self-discovery. The characters, particularly Rose, undergo significant development as they face their fears, stand up to their oppressors, and ultimately take control of their destinies. For readers, this book offers an inspiring message about the importance of making one’s own choices and rejecting the paths others might try to impose.
AdriAnn Manos brings her love of fairy tales, cosplay, and creative expression into this debut novel, making it not just a story, but a celebration of imagination and individuality. Her unique perspective and personal journey—overcoming the challenges of schizencephaly—adds another layer of meaning to the book. Manos has not only crafted a tale where the next generation fights for their right to live freely, but she also shares a piece of her own story, inspiring readers to live boldly and pursue their dreams.

We had the privilege of interviewing AdriAnn Manos. Here are excerpts from the interview.
Hi, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.
Hi, I work at Cinemark Theater as a Ticket Taker. Despite dealing with the challenges of schizencephaly, a rare brain defect similar to Cerebral Palsy, I’ve always tried to live life to the fullest. I’ve been in a wheelchair since birth, so I’ve spent a lot of time buried in books. Growing up, I found comfort and companionship in the characters of stories like Harry Potter (I’m a proud Slytherin), The Hobbit, and various fairytales.
Please tell us about your book, ‘Shattered Faerie Tales: Rise of the Heirs.’
My latest project, ‘Shattered Faerie Tales: Rise of the Heirs,’ explores the idea of life after “Happily Ever After.” It’s about Rose, the daughter of Snow White. When her parents set up a marriage for her against her will, she goes on a journey to discover her true identity while forming an alliance with the Council of Villains.
Please share your journey with our readers.
It took me an incredible seven years to put this book together, drawing inspiration from sources like “Once Upon a Time,” Disney’s “Descendants,” and “The Land of Stories” series by Chris Colfer. My love for fairytales and storytelling has been with me since I was young, with a special focus on writing fan fiction.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I’ve stayed committed to writing, working to improve my skills and knowledge. I pursued an associate degree in creative writing, pushing myself to grow and get better. Throughout this journey, I’ve consistently proved that nothing can hold me back, and I firmly believe that with determination and hard work, anything is possible.
Any message for our readers?
If there’s one thing I want to share, it’s this: go after your dreams. Despite facing doubts from others, I know the importance of perseverance and grit. I encourage you to chase after your passions and goals and not let anyone discourage you. You can and should go for what you believe in.
