We had the pleasure of interviewing Sun Yi, Founder of Night Owls, a digital agency in New York. Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Hi Sun, Great to have you with us today! Please share your journey with our readers.
Hi, I teach people how to be great storytellers. I started my career as a designer and quickly found passion in marketing and copywriting. In 2010, I started my agency called Night Owls. We quickly grew and became one of the top creative agencies for personal brands.
When we started the agency, I worked with many tech startups, and then we started getting some bigger names, like American Red Cross, Columbia University, and Spotify. About five years in, I started working with some personal brand clients like Gabby Bernstein, Mel Robbins, and Jay Shetty. This is when I found my calling.
I started to notice the importance of personal branding. I knew I wanted to build my brand. So, in 2020 after the pandemic, I started putting out content on Instagram, and it quickly grew. Now we built a tight-knit community of storytellers called Night Owl Nation.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
In 2021, I tried to launch my course like everyone else, and something was stopping me. I just had no energy or drive to launch it. I realized a year later that I was trying to do it like everyone else. Once I realized this, I decided not to care about “best practices” or how anyone else did it. I just did what I wanted. I think that was the key strategy for me.

I would advise everyone to know their strengths and double down on them. Just be you. It’s your greatest superpower.
