Her early life and career beginnings
She was born Claudia Maria Schiffer to her mother, Gudrun, and her father, Heinz Schiffer, a lawyer. She has a sister, Ann Carolin, and two brothers, Stefan and Andreas.
Claudia initially dreamed of becoming a lawyer, and she enjoyed working in her father’s law firm. By the time she turned 17, Michel Levaton had scouted her in a nightclub in Düsseldorf and signed her to Metropolitan Model Agency’s modeling agency. She flew to Paris for a trial photoshoot and later landed on the cover of Elle.
Her professional career life
Claudia started her career by appearing in magazines and campaigns. In 1989, she starred in campaigns for Guess? Who acknowledged her for making them more popular around the world. She appeared on the cover of British Vogue and became the face of Chanel.
Throughout her burgeoning career, she appeared on Elle, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, People, Playboy. She was able to attain such enviable heights within a short period. Claudia more or less appeared on 1000 magazine covers.
In January 1990, Claudia walked for Chanel, which marked the beginning of her fashion shows. She continued to walk for others like Chloé, Versace, Christian Dior, Karl Lagerfeld, Fendi, Michael Kors, Balmain, Louis Vuitton, Valentino. She attained the top model status and earned $20,000 per fashion show.
The highly sought-after model appeared in advertising campaigns for many international brands, including Versace, Balmain, Chanel, Escada, Fendi, Ralph Lauren, Pepsi, Intergaz, Max Mara, Prada, Gap, Revlon, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Blumarine, and whatnot.
Claudia first signed a contract with L’Oréal in 1997 and is still with them as one of their longest-standing ambassadors. She endorsed several luxury brands, including appearing as the face of Mango and Accessorize. She pierced her ears for the first time exclusively for the 2006 Autumn/Winter Accessorize campaign.
Her successful modeling journey saw her establish herself as a high-earning model who earned £3 million in a Citroën advertisement in 1998. Claudia regards Karl Lagerfeld as a visionary who transformed her from a shy German girl to a supermodel.
Her other ventures
Not only was Claudia a supermodel, but she was also a judge on Fashion Fringe in 2011, a host, and launched her cashmere collection during Paris Fashion Week in the same year.
She has starred and featured in many films, music videos, television, and documentaries. Her savvy business side saw her release several products for sale all these years.
Claudia’s personal life
Claudia and magician David Copperfield became engaged in January 1994 and later went their separate ways. She married film director Mathew Vaughn on May 25, 2002. They have three children.
