Penelope was born in Melbourne, Australia, on July 23, 1991. Mitchell's father is an Australian entrepreneur, while her mother belongs to French ethnicity and is a visual artist. Other than Penelope, the couple has two sons who are older than Penelope.
Mitchell loved ballet and learned it from the age of four to sixteen. She attended Melbourne University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in media and communication. She wanted to pursue a career in law, but fate has something else in store for her. Mitchell initially intended to become a lawyer, but after completing her undergraduate degree, she moved to Los Angeles and began testing her luck in the acting world.
Mitchell's rise to stardom
Mitchell appeared in several television shows at the beginning of her career. However, she made her television debut when she appeared in an episode of 2009's Australian police drama Rush. In 2011, we saw Mitchell again in an episode of an Australian comedy-drama called Offspring. The same year she made her film debut with a series of short films, including The Fat Lady Swings, Nightshift of the Vampire, The Grace of Others, and Meth to Madness.
However, it was not until 2013 that Mitchell got her major breakthrough. She was cast as a regular in Netflix's Original horror web series called Hemlock Grove as Letha Godfrey. In the very same year, she became a part of the film called The Joe Manifesto, portraying the character of Sue. Mitchell received her second recurring role when she was cast in a popular supernatural teen drama, The Vampire Diaries as Olivia Liv Parker. The show was very popular and received three People's Choice Awards as well as seven Teen's Choice Awards.
Other than films and television series, Mitchell also appeared in Brandon Flower's song video called Lonely Town. In 2017, Mitchell was seen as Jennifer Conrad in a horror thriller film titled Apartment 212. A year later, we saw her in the TV series The Time Capsule, where the leading characters dig up their time capsule to relive the moments of their high school. We can say that 2018 was the golden year for Mitchell; she appeared in several movies, including The Midwife's Deception, Look Away, and Between Worlds.
