Who is Corey Reynolds?

Corey Reynolds is an American actor who is most famously known for his originating role of Seaweed in the popular Broadway adaptation of Hairspray. He has also appeared in TNT’s crime show The Closer, as well as Resident Alien in more recent years.

Early life before fame

Corey Reynolds attended Monacan High School before finally moving to California to pursue his dream, which was becoming an actor. He initially got his start when he got the chance to work at the Paramount Kings Dominion, where he performed in various shows. Then while living in California, he was cast as the touring production manager for the revue Smokey Joe’s Cafe, as well as the tour of Saturday Night Fever. A few years after working there, he went to New York City, where he auditioned for a variety of different shows. Originally he was cast in the Hairspray’s ensemble but later was offered the role of Seaweed after three readings of the script. Following his stellar performance in the role, he was nominated for a Tony Award, as well as a Drama Desk Award, both of which were for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.

Corey Reynolds also guest-starred in Without a Trace and appeared on the cover of The Guardian prior to his in the popular TV series The Closer. Whilst researching his role, Corey drew on his past career in law enforcement and private security.
Corey Reynolds has also appeared in films such as Red Tails, The Terminal, and Straight Outta Compton. He also played Sheriff Mike Thompson in the SyFy’s comedy-drama series Resident Alien, most recently.

Corey has appeared in a hefty amount of roles throughout the years, with his first official credit being the 2003s Eve, where he played Malcolm ‘Khalif’ Davis. Then he appeared in The Closer, where he portrayed David Gabriel throughout the series run (2005-2012), having appeared in a total of 109 episodes. He also starred in CSI: Miami as Steve Greyson in 2007. Corey also appeared in Private Practice as Ray Paget the very same year.
Following that, he was seen in NCIS portraying Lieutenant Commander Aaban El-Sayad (2009). He was also seen in 2014s Delirium, where he played Tack. Then he was cast as Way long Ortley for three episodes on the popular series Gettin On (2015) while also appearing as Mark West in an episode of Castle the very same year.
Corey also had a prominent role in the popular TV series All American, where he played Cliff Mosley for five episodes throughout 2019-2020. Then came his role as Harrison Brennan in 2019s The Red Line, where he appeared for three episodes of the show.
His last major appearance was in 2021s Resident Alien, playing the funny and quirky Sheriff Mike Thompson in a small town. He was praised for his portrayal, and audience members loved his humorous portrayal of the sheriff.
