Menopause affects more than one billion women worldwide, yet honest conversations about desire, intimacy, and sensual wellbeing remain surprisingly limited. Many women enter this stage feeling exhausted, disconnected, or unsure why their bodies and emotions seem unfamiliar.
In Sexy Menopause: The New Science and Soul of Midlife Desire, Australian physiotherapist Lisa Fitzpatrick brings these experiences into the light. Scheduled for release in October 2026, the book offers an empowering exploration of menopause as a biological event, emotional transition, and spiritual threshold.

A Transformative View of Menopause
Women have often received a narrow cultural message about ageing. They’re encouraged to tolerate symptoms quietly while accepting changes in confidence, vitality, intimacy, and visibility. Sexy Menopause challenges that story by presenting midlife as a period filled with potential for discovery and growth.
Lisa understands the intimate realities of this transition through more than three decades of clinical experience. In her work as a pelvic and sexual health educator, she has listened to thousands of women discuss painful sex, disappearing libido, vaginal dryness, pelvic floor concerns, and changes in arousal. Their physical symptoms frequently arrived alongside grief, shame, loneliness, or a troubling sense that something was wrong with them.
The book assures readers that change doesn’t mean personal failure. Hormonal shifts can influence the body in powerful ways, and women deserve clear information about what they’re experiencing. With greater understanding, they can approach their changing needs with compassion, curiosity, and practical support.
That message reaches beyond symptom management. Lisa presents menopause as an invitation to examine pleasure, identity, boundaries, relationships, and personal worth. She encourages women to listen closely to their bodies and decide how they want the next chapter of life to feel.

Where Pelvic Science Meets Personal Awakening
Sexy Menopause blends evidence-based healthcare, pelvic wisdom, storytelling, and soulful reflection. Readers will learn why desire changes, how emotional safety shapes sexual wellbeing, and what happens to pleasure and arousal during midlife. The book also addresses vaginal discomfort, pelvic floor health, body confidence, and the concerns many women struggle to discuss openly.
Lisa’s personal journey gives the subject additional emotional depth. While moving through her own hormonal transition, she experienced the unexpected end of a long-term relationship. The loss unsettled her beliefs about love, security, ageing, and identity. It also led her through a profound period of healing and self-discovery.
As she rebuilt her life, menopause began to look like a sacred disruption. It created space to release outdated expectations and uncover a more authentic voice. Conversations with women in clinics, workshops, online communities, and private messages revealed a shared longing. They wanted accurate information, and they also wanted permission to desire, speak honestly, establish healthy boundaries, and take up space without apology.
Those conversations became the heart of the book. Lisa invites readers to recognise that sexuality and pleasure have no expiration date. Midlife can open new possibilities for intimacy, confidence, self-trust, and emotional freedom. The woman who emerges may feel more grounded and fully herself than ever before.
The book also considers what women wish men understood about menopause. This broader perspective may help partners approach changing intimacy with empathy, patience, and openness. It creates opportunities for healthier conversations in which physical comfort, emotional safety, and mutual understanding receive the attention they deserve.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
I’m Lisa Fitzpatrick, an Australian physiotherapist, author, speaker and women’s pelvic and sexual-health specialist. I have worked as a physiotherapist for more than 30 years and am the founder of Womankind Pelvic Care Physiotherapy in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales.
My clinical work supports women experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapse, incontinence, pelvic pain, painful sex, birth-related concerns and the physical and sexual changes associated with menopause. I am also the author of Sexy Menopause, an evidence-informed and empowering guide to helping women understand their changing bodies and reclaim confidence, pleasure and self-trust during midlife.
Alongside my clinical work, I write and speak about menopause, pelvic health, women’s sexuality, feminine leadership and the deeper transformation that can occur in the second half of a woman’s life.
Please tell us about your journey.
I graduated as a physiotherapist in 1993 and have now spent more than three decades working with the human body. Over time, I became increasingly drawn to women’s pelvic and sexual health—an area that profoundly affects quality of life but has historically been surrounded by silence. Through thousands of conversations and more than 6,000 pelvic floor examinations, I witnessed how often women felt frightened, ashamed, or alone in their experiences. Many had never been given clear information about their pelvic floor, vaginal health, sexual function or the changes that can accompany menopause. I also saw that menopause was too often presented solely as a medical problem rather than a significant biological, emotional and personal rite of passage.
My own experience of midlife deepened my understanding of this transition and inspired me to write Sexy Menopause. I wanted to create the book I felt women deserved: scientifically grounded, clinically useful, compassionate, honest and unafraid to talk about sexuality and pleasure.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
One of the most important strategies has been listening deeply to the women I serve. My work has developed from the real questions, fears, and experiences women have shared with me in the privacy of the clinic room. Their stories revealed what was missing from the broader conversation about menopause and pelvic health.
Any message for our readers
Menopause is not the end. It’s a holy invitation to greater authenticity and reinvention.

Thank you so much, Lisa Fitzpatrick, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
