Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
My name is James Armstrong, and I serve as a Lead Pastor, author, and ministry leader with a passion for discipleship and helping the church live on mission. I’ve spent over two decades in pastoral ministry, along with serving as a Pastor, missionary, professor, and leadership strategist.
Currently, I’m completing my PhD in Systematic Theology, where my research focuses on Paul’s use of mysterion and its implications for the church. I also lead initiatives like Becoming Missional and Becoming Disciples, which are designed to equip Christians rediscover their biblical identity as God’s sent people.
At the core, everything I do is about helping people follow Jesus more deeply and live out their faith with purpose.
Please tell us about your journey.
I grew up as a military kid, living both in the U.S. and overseas, which shaped my worldview early on. I came to faith as a teenager at a church camp, and that moment changed everything for me.
A few years later, while serving in the military and involved in youth ministry overseas, I sensed a clear call to vocational ministry. That calling led me to pursue theological education and step into full-time ministry.
Over the years, my journey has included serving in over a dozen congregations across multiple countries, counseling thousands of individuals and couples, and leading in both church and military contexts—even in deployed environments during times of war.
Through every season, one theme has remained constant: God’s call to make disciples and help the church become what it was always meant to be—a Spirit-empowered, mission-driven community.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
A few key principles have shaped my journey:
- Everything flows from the conviction that we are called to make disciples and live on mission. That clarity keeps decisions focused and aligned.
- Ministry is about people. Investing in relationships, building trust, and developing others has been essential to any success I’ve experienced.
- I believe in designing clear pathways, setting goals, and aligning teams around a shared vision. Strategy brings out the best in people and leads to real impact.
- Scripture is the foundation, and the Spirit is the power. Staying grounded in both has been non-negotiable in sustaining long-term ministry.
- Reaching people in a changing culture requires innovation. Whether through technology, teaching, or leadership development, staying flexible has been key.
Any message for our readers?
You were created for more than just going through the motions—you were created to live on mission with God.
You don’t have to have a platform or a title to make an impact. God uses ordinary people who are willing to be faithful, available, and obedient.
My encouragement is simple: stay rooted in Scripture, walk in the Spirit, invest in people, and say “yes” to what God is calling you to do next.
The church is at its best when every believer embraces their calling—not just to attend, but to live as a disciple-maker and a messenger of the Gospel.
