Jesica Oteruelo Lopez’s ‘Ascending is Remembering’ and ‘Remembering Is Being’ Map the Journey From Awareness to Authentic Living

Some books arrive as guides, while others feel like conversations held in a quiet room. Jesica Oteruelo Lopez brings that intimate quality to Ascending is Remembering: A Journey Back to Yourself and Remembering Is Being: Releasing What You Believed and Discovering What You Are.

Together, the books form the first two parts of a planned trilogy centered on awareness, healing, identity, and the deeply personal process of returning to oneself.

A Life That Became Part of the Story

Jesica’s writing is closely connected to an unconventional life shaped by change, travel, personal challenges, and spiritual exploration. Born in the Basque Country, she entered entrepreneurship at nineteen and later led a foundry as its only woman. Her path eventually carried her through major personal transitions and training experiences in India, Thailand, and several European countries.

She later settled in Lanzarote, where the Atlantic Ocean became part of her daily environment. For the past several years, life there has included time aboard her boat, ocean baths, meditation, barefoot walks, therapeutic work, and periods of intentional silence.

Those experiences created fertile ground for Ascending is Remembering.

The book explores awakening, identity, separation, vulnerability, emptiness, compassion, and the idea of returning home to oneself. Jesica approaches these themes through lived experience and personal reflection. Her story becomes a doorway through which readers can examine their own histories.

Self-inquiry questions at the end of the chapters extend that experience. They encourage readers to stay with difficult questions and explore what those questions reveal about their own beliefs, memories, and emotional patterns.

From Remembering to Living

The journey continues with Remembering Is Being, a book designed for readers who have already begun examining themselves and are discovering that awareness continues to unfold through everyday life.

Jesica turns her attention toward beliefs, relationships, fears, patterns, identity, solitude, friendship, loss, and letting go. A central question runs through the work: who remains when someone releases everything they once believed themselves to be?

That question gives the second book its emotional direction.

Seven chapters explore different dimensions of inner work, while seven practical cards help readers carry reflection into lived experience. The focus reaches into ordinary moments, including the pause before a reaction, the recognition of a familiar pattern, or the decision to respond differently.

This progression also creates a natural relationship between the two books. Ascending is Remembering explores finding the path back to oneself. Remembering Is Being examines what happens when a person begins living from what they have discovered.

A third book is currently in development and is intended to complete the trilogy’s inner journey.

Healing Through the Body, Movement, and Silence

Writing represents one expression of Jesica’s broader work. She is also a holistic therapist and founder of Lavanda Zen Massage in Lanzarote, Spain. Her practice includes intuitive massage, energy therapies, Bhakti Yoga, expressive movement, and energy harmonization sessions.

Some of her massage and therapy sessions take place aboard her boat, creating an unusual setting closely connected to the ocean and the life she has built on the island.

Her therapeutic background also informs the way she approaches personal transformation. The body, emotions, movement, silence, and awareness all have a place within her perspective.

Jesica spent years questioning whether her own experiences were worth putting into words. Eventually, writing became another way of exploring subjects she had encountered personally, including guilt, hidden wounds, healing, identity, and the courage required to reconsider an established life.

She once had a home and business in the Basque Country. An internal desire for change led her toward travel and eventually Lanzarote, where she developed her therapeutic practice, bought a boat, and began transforming her experiences into books.

Her writing draws from experience, vulnerability, reflection, and curiosity. Through her books, Jesica invites readers to examine inherited beliefs, revisit their stories with compassion, and explore who they may be beneath expectations, fears, and familiar identities.

Returning to What Was Always There

With Ascending is Remembering and Remembering Is Being, Jesica has created two connected works about looking inward with patience and courage. The books leave room for uncertainty, reflection, and personal interpretation.

At the heart of the developing trilogy sits a simple possibility: finding oneself may begin with remembering what has been there all along.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Jesica Oteruelo Lopez. I am an author, holistic therapist, and founder of Lavanda Zen Massage in Lanzarote, Spain. I offer intuitive massage and energy therapies, teach Bhakti Yoga and expressive movement, and facilitate energy harmonization sessions.

Part of my work takes place on my boat, a very special space where I offer massage and therapy sessions. Writing is another expression of my journey. After years of doubting whether my story was worth telling, I found the courage to write about life, healing, silence, guilt, hidden wounds, and the journey back to ourselves.

Please tell us about your journey.

I once had a home and business in the Basque Country, but something inside me was asking for change. I chose to leave, travel, and follow my intuition. That journey eventually brought me to Lanzarote, an island that still speaks to me every day.

Here I created a new life, bought a boat, developed my therapeutic work, and finally began writing. My experiences became Ascending is Remembering and later Remembering is Being, the first two books of a trilogy, with a third currently in development.

My journey has taught me that sometimes we find ourselves only after having the courage to leave behind what we thought we had to be.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Action. I make plans, but I trust my intuition. I have learned to believe in myself, face fear, take risks, make mistakes, and keep moving. If one path does not work, I choose another. Success, for me, is not about avoiding mistakes; it is about learning, adapting, and continuing.

Any message for our readers?

Life is beautiful, a gift and a blessing. One of our greatest freedoms is the freedom to choose. We cannot always choose what happens, but we can choose how we experience it.

Whatever moment you are living, be present. Choose your attitude, choose yourself, and trust your journey. Sometimes what we call a mistake today becomes something we understand very differently tomorrow.

Thank you so much, Jesica Oteruelo Lopez, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
