Dr. Rajarshi Pal brings together medicine, exploration, history, and personal courage in two compelling books shaped by real journeys across land and sea. Beyond Limits and Thistlegorm Expedition & Other Adventures invite readers into underwater caves, ancient landscapes, remote mountains, volcanic islands, and shipwrecks that continue to carry echoes of the past.
A Wider World in Beyond Limits
Beyond Limits follows Dr. Rajarshi’s experiences through destinations that demand preparation, resilience, and respect for nature. Published on August 20, 2026, the book is Part 1 of the Beyond Limits series and is available in paperback and hardcover editions.
Cave diving in Cancún takes readers into a shadowy underwater environment where narrow passages and limited light create an intense sense of isolation. The experience captures the technical discipline of diving while revealing the strange beauty hidden below familiar tourist destinations.

The Red Sea and the waters around Gozo offer different underwater worlds. Coral reefs, marine life, and changing conditions give each dive its own character. Dr. Rajarshi describes these places through the eyes of an experienced diver who understands how quickly the sea can shift from calm to demanding.
The book also travels across centuries. Its exploration of the Maya civilisation introduces readers to a culture shaped by remarkable knowledge, architecture, and spiritual traditions. History becomes part of the adventure as ancient settlements encourage reflection on earlier societies.
On land, the cliffs of Pembrokeshire test strength and concentration through rock climbing. Mount Kilimanjaro presents another challenge, combining altitude, endurance, and uncertainty. These chapters show how preparation supports every successful expedition. Together, the stories create a thoughtful memoir about curiosity and the desire to move beyond comfortable boundaries.
History Beneath the Waves
Published on August 7, 2026, Thistlegorm Expedition & Other Adventures is available in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover editions. The collection places scuba diving at its centre while expanding into maritime history, island culture, hiking, cycling, and wildlife.
Its defining expedition leads to the SS Thistlegorm, a British cargo ship sunk in the Red Sea during the Second World War. The vessel had departed from Glasgow carrying rifles, ammunition, military vehicles, motorbikes, clothing, and other supplies intended for Allied forces in North Africa. After taking the longer route around Africa, the ship entered the Red Sea and waited near Sha’ab Ali because the Suez Canal had temporarily closed.

In 1941, German bombers discovered the anchored vessel. The attack ignited its cargo and sent the Thistlegorm to the seabed, where it lay forgotten for years before Jacques-Yves Cousteau heard of it in the 1950s and Israeli divers rediscovered it in the 1990s.
Dr. Rajarshi recounts travelling to Sharm El Sheikh and joining an international group of divers aboard a cruise vessel. Equipment inspections, certification checks, dive briefings, and an initial practice dive establish the discipline behind the expedition. At Ras Mohammed National Park, healthy reefs and abundant marine life offer a vivid prelude to the wreck.
Descending along a rope towards the Thistlegorm, the divers enter dim blue water at a depth of about thirty metres. Torches reveal broken machinery, artillery pieces, damaged sections of the ship, and coral spreading across rusted steel. Fish move through spaces once filled with wartime cargo. The wreck has become a memorial, historical record, and living marine habitat.
Other chapters widen the adventure through the Bahamas, Rhodes, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife. Coral reefs, sharks, Atlantic caves, ancient fortresses, volcanic beaches, strong currents, and rugged trails create a varied portrait of exploration. Each destination carries its own risks and rewards.
