Some journeys begin with a ticket and an itinerary. Others begin with a question that refuses to leave the heart. Benny Mailman’s The Experiencer Series belongs to the second kind, inviting readers into a remarkable true story that stretches across continents while exploring the deeper connections that unite humanity.
Spanning three books and inspired by an extraordinary eight-and-a-half-month solo expedition from October 4, 2012, through mid-June 2013, this trilogy combines travel, humor, spirituality, and heartfelt storytelling into an unforgettable reading experience.
A Journey That Began With Faith and Curiosity
When Benny Mailman boarded a plane bound for Moscow, Russia, he carried very few fixed plans. He knew he wanted to experience freedom at its deepest level and test a belief that had long guided his life: people everywhere are connected regardless of language, culture, or national borders. That simple idea became the foundation of Finding 42, a title inspired by the recurring appearance of the number 42 throughout his life, which Benny views as a reassuring sign that he is walking the path meant for him.

Book One, Finding 42: Cut The Rope, captures the excitement of stepping into the unknown. From Moscow’s famous landmarks to unforgettable rides aboard the Trans-Siberian Railway, every destination introduces colorful personalities, unexpected friendships, and moments that blend laughter with genuine reflection. Mongolia, China, bustling cities, quiet villages, and remarkable landscapes all become chapters in an adventure that feels wonderfully personal because Benny writes as though the reader is traveling beside him.
His years performing stand-up comedy in Las Vegas, New York City, and Los Angeles shine through every page. Humorous encounters, quirky misunderstandings, and lively conversations balance beautifully with thoughtful observations about life, purpose, and human connection.
Three Books Filled With Discovery, Humor, and Spiritual Growth
The second installment, Finding 42: Searcher of Soul Keys, broadens the journey across western China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. Each destination offers something memorable, whether it is visiting respected herbalists, navigating cultural surprises, exploring UNESCO heritage sites, or sharing meaningful conversations with strangers who soon become lifelong memories.

Benny replaces traditional chapter titles with “Entries,” creating the feeling of reading a personal travel journal rather than a conventional memoir. Every entry captures a fresh experience, allowing readers to witness moments exactly as they unfolded. The writing flows naturally between exciting adventures, emotional discoveries, and spiritual insights that emerge during ordinary encounters.

Throughout these travels, intuition becomes an invisible travel companion. Benny often follows feelings rather than detailed itineraries, trusting that each unexpected turn holds an important lesson. That willingness to embrace uncertainty leads to experiences that feel almost mystical while remaining grounded in genuine human interaction.
Book Three, Finding 42: The Zen Crescendo, brings the trilogy toward its emotional peak. Nepal becomes a central stage as Benny tackles the demanding Annapurna trek, eventually reaching Thorong La Pass at an elevation of 5,416 meters. Those physically demanding moments reveal determination forged during his years as a United States Marine while also highlighting vulnerability, gratitude, and personal transformation.
The story continues through Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and China before finally returning to the United States, bringing the incredible journey full circle.
Finding Gold in People Across the World

One of the trilogy’s strongest themes is Benny’s belief that the greatest treasures collected during travel are people rather than places. He often describes the “Gold” gathered in his heart as the friendships, kindness, and shared humanity discovered in every country he visited. Cambodia, Laos, and China became especially meaningful because of the relationships formed there.
Readers also discover countless unforgettable moments involving horses in Mongolia and China, water buffalo in China, elephants in Laos, long train rides, local buses, mountain trails, bustling markets, ancient temples, and quiet conversations that leave lasting impressions. Even language barriers become opportunities for connection. Benny frequently shared videos of everyday American life with people he met, introducing them to deserts, beaches, snowstorms, and even his family’s Wisconsin farm complete with goats, chickens, llamas, and the beloved family dog. Those simple exchanges created bridges between cultures through curiosity and genuine interest.
Another signature element is Benny’s philosophy of “Embrace the Dorkness.” His willingness to laugh at himself creates an atmosphere where readers feel comfortable embracing life’s awkward, joyful moments. Humor never distracts from the deeper message. Instead, it strengthens the emotional impact by reminding readers that joy often appears in unexpected places.
Throughout every page, Benny intentionally capitalizes the word Love because he believes it represents humanity’s greatest strength. That philosophy quietly shapes every encounter, every friendship, and every lesson shared across the trilogy.
