Life can change in the space between one heartbeat and the next. In Fatal Instant: The Lies Have Begun, Deivy Garrido places a young man’s fragile health, complicated relationships, and buried family secrets at the center of an emotionally charged story.
The first book in the six-part Fatal Instant series, of which three books have been published so far, blends young romance with mystery and suspense. It explores what happens when love arrives during a period shaped by uncertainty, fear, and truths that refuse to remain hidden.
A Life Measured in Heartbeats
Adam Crow wants to experience the routines of an ordinary young man. He attends classes, navigates family relationships, and tries to imagine a future for himself. His severe heart condition makes that sense of normality difficult to maintain. Every pill and physical warning reminds him that his life could change without notice.
Seattle provides the setting for Adam’s deeply personal struggle. Beneath his everyday routine lies a network of family secrets and carefully maintained lies. The people closest to him appear to know more than they are willing to reveal, leaving Adam to question his past and the reality surrounding him.
This medical uncertainty gives the story an immediate emotional weight. Adam faces the possibility of death while still trying to understand what it means to live fully. His condition influences his choices, relationships, and willingness to trust. Time feels precious because he can never assume how much of it remains.
Deivy builds the narrative around those vulnerable moments. Authentic conversations and difficult revelations draw readers into Adam’s experience, while the thriller elements create a steady feeling that something life-changing is waiting beneath the surface.
When Love Complicates the Truth
Two people soon reshape Adam’s understanding of his circumstances. Alice represents a memory from his past that returns with unexpected force. Her presence connects him to unresolved experiences and raises questions about the events that brought him to this stage of his life.
Janet Carristong introduces a different kind of challenge. Strong-willed, mysterious, and emotionally guarded, she carries scars that are deeper than they initially appear. Her bold personality affects Adam immediately, and their developing connection allows him to experience feelings he had never expected to find under such difficult circumstances.
Through Janet, Adam begins discovering the excitement and vulnerability that accompany love. Opening his heart requires courage, especially when his physical heart already places his future at risk. Their relationship asks him to share his fears, accept emotional exposure, and place his trust in another person.
Romance forms an important part of the novel, while friendship, loyalty, and camaraderie give the wider story its warmth. The characters have flaws, doubts, and emotional wounds. Their imperfections make their decisions feel recognizable, especially when they struggle to protect one another or confront painful realities.

The danger surrounding Adam can take several forms. It may appear through illness, betrayal, affection, or an opportunity that carries consequences. This tension helps Fatal Instant move between tender scenes and unsettling discoveries while maintaining its focus on human connection.
A Story Shaped by Resilience
Deivy’s own experiences lend personal depth to the themes of survival and transformation. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he developed his public identity as a writer through Twitter during late 2013 and early 2014. His early work, El Justo del Equilibrio, received millions of free downloads through social media.
In 2014, Deivy began developing Muerte Súbita, the Spanish-language creative journey that would lead to the Fatal Instant saga. He shared chapters with readers on Twitter in 2015, creating an early community around the characters and their experiences. Those connections showed him how directly a story could reach people when shared with openness and confidence.

His later move from Venezuela to Argentina also influenced his creative perspective. Migration brought unfamiliar realities, personal challenges, and new sources of inspiration. Themes of endurance, change, and rebuilding became meaningful parts of his literary outlook.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
I’m Deivy Garrido, a Venezuelan-Argentine accountant and writer. My literary journey began after I went viral on Twitter in 2013. In 2014, I started developing Muerte Súbita. Its first installment, Fatal Instant, tells the story of Adam Crow, a man facing a heart condition while discovering love with Janet Carristong, an untamable woman who changes his life.
Please tell us about your journey.
My journey is also a story of resilience and migration. Leaving Venezuela and building a new life in Argentina exposed me to different realities, challenges, and experiences that became sources of literary inspiration. These experiences helped shape the Fatal Instant saga, where emotions, human relationships, and the strength to keep moving forward play a central role.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Twitter played a key role in introducing my work to readers. In 2015, I shared a couple of chapters of Fatal Instant there and connected with people who became interested in the story. Social media allowed me to share my writing directly, build a community, and discover that a story can find its readers when you dare to put it out into the world.
Any message for our readers.
I would love for readers to give Adam Crow’s story a chance. I invite them to discover an adventure filled with genuine friendship, loyalty, and camaraderie, featuring human, imperfect characters who evoke real emotions. I hope they find something in these pages that moves them and stays with them long after they finish reading.
