What happens when three strangers enter a deadly competition carrying secrets, personal struggles, and ambitions that could change their lives forever? Steven Madonia explores this fascinating premise in ‘The Tablets of Tetran: The Phantom Labyrinth‘, a captivating debut fantasy novel that introduces readers to a richly imagined world filled with dangerous trials, extraordinary magic, and ancient mysteries.
A Dangerous World Where Champions Claim Extraordinary Rewards
In the mysterious world of Tetran, an annual competition draws warriors and ambitious challengers from different races, cultures, and backgrounds. These deadly trials offer rewards capable of transforming a person’s future, including considerable wealth, political influence, and access to secret territories forbidden to ordinary citizens. Every participant enters with something to gain, and the dangers awaiting them demand extraordinary courage, determination, and sacrifice. Released on October 25, 2026, the 288-page novel is available in Kindle, Paperback, and Hardcover editions on Amazon.

Some competitors hope to secure financial stability for their families, while others pursue legendary artifacts, hidden knowledge, and opportunities for greater power. Steven creates an intriguing environment where personal motivations influence every decision, and alliances can determine who survives. The competition provides an exciting foundation for a larger adventure involving mysterious forces, complicated relationships, and discoveries that extend far beyond the pursuit of a championship title.
At the heart of this unfolding adventure are Rin, Yot, and Nomir, three strangers whose individual journeys eventually bring them together. Each arrives carrying personal reasons for participating, shaped by experiences and beliefs that influence their understanding of the world. As dangerous circumstances force them to cooperate, their growing connection becomes one of the story’s most compelling elements, raising questions about trust, loyalty, and the emotional burdens people carry.
One of the novel’s most distinctive features is its elaborate magical system, known as aethra, which represents the manifestation of an individual’s will. Every person’s aethra possesses a particular color that reflects the deeper alignment of their soul. This fascinating concept gives magic a personal dimension, connecting supernatural abilities with identity, emotional development, and the choices characters make throughout their journeys.
Those capable of weaving aethra can develop remarkable abilities, ranging from creating phantasmal conjurations to channeling exceptional physical strength or heightened perception. Steven introduces these possibilities gradually, allowing readers to discover the system’s complexity alongside the characters. As individuals experience personal growth, emotional conflict, or moral decline, their aethric abilities evolve accordingly, creating an engaging relationship between magical power and character development.
The magical framework also introduces philosophical questions about ambition, responsibility, and the consequences of pursuing extraordinary abilities. Readers encounter a world where power carries meaning beyond combat, influencing how individuals perceive themselves and interact with others. Through this imaginative approach, Steven adds depth to the fantasy setting while creating opportunities for increasingly intricate developments as the larger saga unfolds.
Ancient Artifacts, Emotional Trauma, and the Search for Trust
Tetran’s deadly trials provide considerable excitement, and Rin’s personal journey introduces another important mystery. Haunted by experiences from her past, she seeks legendary objects known as the Tablets of Tetran. Her determination to recover these mythical artifacts adds emotional urgency to the adventure, suggesting that the secrets surrounding them could carry profound consequences for her future.

The relationships between Rin, Yot, and Nomir also explore how individuals with radically different perspectives respond to shared danger. Their experiences raise meaningful questions about overcoming trauma, understanding unfamiliar beliefs, and learning to depend on people whose motivations remain uncertain. Themes of love, sacrifice, and the cost of power give the narrative emotional substance, encouraging readers to consider the difficult decisions that accompany survival.
Published by Sulnir Publications, ‘The Tablets of Tetran: The Phantom Labyrinth’ marks the beginning of an ambitious fantasy saga. Its combination of competitive trials, mysterious artifacts, evolving magical abilities, and character-driven storytelling offers an appealing experience for readers who enjoy immersive fantasy adventures with emotional complexity.

We had the privilege of interviewing Steven Madonia. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Could you please introduce yourself and tell us what you do?
I’ve been involved with the arts for as long as I can remember! I love drawing, writing, and music. As a musician by trade, I’ve learned to apply that dedication to my writing ventures. I believe in honest, thrilling fantasy that respects the reader’s time and validates emotional resonance.
Could you tell us the story or journey behind your work?
When I was younger, I used to write short stories in my notebooks, whether they were little blurbs or even songs and poetry. I discovered, after dealing with personal challenges in my life, that writing fiction was a way to bring my honest experience of life into my work, including both the love and the pain. That for me was both therapeutic and personally fulfilling. Now, I write all the time!

What strategies or principles have helped you?
The first thing was to get out of my own way when drafting. Let the story take form with the ideas I have. I create world maps first before even writing and ask myself, what kind of economy does this city have? What is their culture and history? Do they have long-standing enemies or allies? That sort of thinking has become integral to my writing process, allowing me to develop my characters and their world to a much greater degree. From there, I let my characters lead the way. I often tell myself, “Design the setting, imagine a set piece, put the characters in a box, shake it up, and see what happens!” For me, that produces results that are structured, but at times even surprising for me as an author!
What is your message for readers?
As an artist, it is so easy to be concerned about inner fears and anxieties. I’ve spent many years living in a self-imposed set of constraints that limited what I could make in terms of scope and authenticity. This book, for me, was deeply liberating as I was able to remove those boundaries and finally create the art that resonated with me. Magic and mysteries. Character trauma and banter. Fear and worry. Faith and hope. The philosophies that I’ve come to understand about love, life, and the cost of power. I hope you enjoy the emotional journey of The Tablets of Tetran: The Phantom Labyrinth as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Thank you so much, Steven, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
