The Inspiration Behind Her Writing Journey

Roan Miles began her journey into children’s literature from a deeply personal place. As a mother, she noticed that while children are often encouraged to be kind, they are not always guided on how to navigate situations where kindness becomes complicated. This realization sparked something important within her.

She wanted to create stories that could help her own children understand life lessons that are often learned through experience. These lessons include recognizing emotional boundaries, understanding friendship dynamics, and knowing when it is okay to say no. Writing became her way of translating these complex ideas into something simple, accessible, and meaningful for young minds.

Roan Miles approaches storytelling with a clear purpose. She aims to bridge the gap between teaching kindness and understanding self-respect. Her stories are designed to help children build emotional intelligence early in life, giving them tools that will support them as they grow. At the same time, her work encourages parents to engage in open and thoughtful conversations with their children.

Mandy’s Gold and Its Meaningful Message

The debut book by Roan Miles, Mandy’s Gold, stands as a reflection of her vision and values. This heartfelt children’s story focuses on themes of kindness, friendship, and healthy boundaries. It introduces readers to relatable situations that encourage reflection and discussion.

Mandy’s Gold explores how even well-meaning actions can sometimes lead to unintended outcomes. Through its gentle storytelling, the book highlights the importance of awareness and emotional understanding. Roan Miles carefully presents these ideas in a way that feels natural and engaging, allowing children to absorb important lessons without feeling overwhelmed.

One of the central messages in Mandy’s Gold is that kindness and self-worth go hand in hand. Roan Miles emphasizes that being kind does not mean ignoring personal boundaries. Instead, it involves understanding oneself and making choices that support both compassion and confidence. This perspective adds depth to the story and makes it valuable for both children and adults.

The book is set to launch on May 1, 2026, and will be available on Amazon and roanmiles.com. With its thoughtful message and relatable characters, it is expected to become a meaningful addition to family reading time.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Roan Miles, and I’m a children’s book author based in Massachusetts, USA. I’m also a wife, a mother, and a full-time corporate professional. Alongside my husband, I co-run Miles Creek Farm, where we focus on simple living and serving our local community.

At heart, I’m a storyteller who writes books that help children and families navigate life lessons—especially around kindness, friendship, and learning how to set healthy boundaries.

Please tell us about your journey.

My journey into writing began at home, as a mom. I realized that while children are often taught to “be kind,” they’re not always taught what that truly means in real-life situations—especially when kindness is not returned or when boundaries are crossed.

I wanted to create stories that my own children could learn from—lessons that are usually learned later in life, sometimes through difficult experiences. Writing became a way for me to turn those lessons into something meaningful, accessible, and age-appropriate.

My book Mandy’s Gold was born from that intention—to spark conversations between parents and children about kindness, friendship, and understanding when it’s okay to say no.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

For me, success has come from staying grounded in purpose and authenticity. I didn’t start this journey to chase trends—I started it to solve a real need I saw in my own family.

Some key strategies that helped me:

Clarity of purpose: Knowing why I write and who I’m writing for

Consistency: Making progress even while balancing a full-time job and family life

Simplicity: Keeping my message clear and relatable for both children and parents

Community focus: Staying connected to real families and real conversations

Courage to share: Putting my work out there even when it felt personal

Any message for our readers

Kindness is powerful—but it should never come at the cost of your well-being. I hope both children and adults remember that it’s okay to be kind and have boundaries. Teaching this early can help prevent a lot of hurt later on.

If my stories can open even one meaningful conversation between a parent and a child, then I know I’m on the right path.

Thank you so much, Roan, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
