Adesola Adejuwon’s Heartwarming ‘Skylar Is Promoted to Big Sister’ Celebrates the Journey From Me to We

A new baby can fill a home with happiness, questions, and emotions that young children may struggle to explain. In Skylar Is Promoted to Big Sister: From Me to We: A New Role, a Bigger Heart, Adesola Adejuwon transforms this major family change into a warm and reassuring journey.

A Thanksgiving Announcement Changes Everything

Skylar is a lively young girl who has spent her early life surrounded by attention and affection. As an only child and the youngest of sixteen grandchildren, she’s accustomed to being doted on by her parents and extended family. She once makes a birthday wish for a sibling, and that wish eventually comes true. During a memorable Thanksgiving gathering, her family announces that a new baby is on the way and Skylar is receiving an important promotion: she’ll soon become a big sister.

The holiday setting adds a comforting sense of gratitude, celebration, and togetherness to the story. Skylar’s world begins expanding during a moment centered on family connection. Her promotion sounds exciting, yet it also signals that familiar routines, relationships, and expectations are about to change in ways she has yet to understand.

Inspired by real-life events, the story approaches this transition through the honest perspective of a child. Skylar experiences excitement alongside uncertainty as she thinks about the baby’s arrival and her new place within the family. Her emotional journey permits young readers to hold several feelings at once. Children can feel happy about becoming older siblings while also wondering whether they’ll continue receiving the same affection and attention they’ve always known.

Making Space for Every Big Feeling

One of the book’s greatest strengths is its compassionate treatment of family change. Skylar’s worries are presented as natural parts of growing, allowing children to recognize their own concerns without feeling embarrassed. As she moves through the twists and turns of preparing for a sibling, she begins discovering that love can grow along with a family. Her new role gradually becomes an opportunity to grow and to feel a deeper connection with those around her.

The journey from “Me” to “We” gives the book its emotional center. Young readers see how family life may shift when a baby arrives, from changes in attention to new responsibilities and shared experiences. The story offers reassurance through Skylar’s gradual adjustment rather than rushing her emotions. Her experiences can help children understand that accepting change takes time, and each question or uncertain feeling can become part of a healthy conversation with a trusted adult.

Misha Malik’s illustrations support the story’s child-friendly spirit and help make Skylar’s experience inviting for preschool and early elementary readers. Pictures can provide useful emotional cues, especially for children who are still learning how to identify and describe what they feel. The visual presentation also makes the book suitable for reading aloud, giving parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators, and librarians opportunities to pause and ask children what Skylar may be thinking during important moments.

For growing families, the book can serve as a gentle conversation starter before a new sibling arrives. Adults can use Skylar’s journey to discuss upcoming changes, invite questions, and remind children that they remain deeply valued. The story also contains thoughtful guidance for parents as they prepare for a changing household. Its focus on hope, love, and connection encourages families to approach the transition together and create space for every child’s voice.

Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Adesola Adejuwon. I’m a pharmacist, children’s book author, wife, mother, and creative entrepreneur passionate about storytelling, personal growth, and making a meaningful impact. Although my professional background is rooted in healthcare and science, I’ve always embraced creativity and the power of storytelling to inspire and connect people. I’m the author of Skylar Is Promoted to Big Sister, a heartwarming children’s picture book celebrating family bonds, emotional growth, and the journey of welcoming a new sibling. I’m also the founder of SolazIndelibles, a creative platform dedicated to meaningful stories, ideas, and experiences that leave lasting impressions.

Please tell us about your journey.

My journey into children’s literature began with a meaningful family experience: preparing my daughter for the arrival of a new sibling. While welcoming a baby is exciting, it’s also a significant transition for the child becoming an older sibling. I wanted to create a story that captures the joy of that milestone while acknowledging the emotions and adjustments that come with it. That inspiration became Skylar Is Promoted to Big Sister: From Me to We: A New Role, A Bigger Heart. What began as a personal story evolved into a two-year publishing journey filled with learning, revisions, creative decisions, and unexpected challenges. Balancing my professional career, family responsibilities, and the publishing process required patience, resilience, and determination. Seeing the finished book come to life was incredibly rewarding. Even more fulfilling is knowing that a personal experience can now help families start meaningful conversations about sibling relationships, kindness, and emotional growth. And this is only the beginning of my storytelling journey!

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

My journey has taught me that success is often built through persistence, adaptability, and a willingness to keep learning. I stayed focused on creating a quality book, even when the process required more time and effort than anticipated. I learned to ask questions, seek professional guidance, embrace constructive feedback, and make thoughtful decisions rather than rushing the process. Balancing multiple responsibilities also taught me the importance of discipline, prioritization, and celebrating small milestones. Above all, faith, perseverance, and the encouragement of loved ones helped me stay grounded throughout the journey. For me, success isn’t simply about reaching a milestone. It’s about growing through the experience and creating something that can positively impact others.

Any message for our readers.

Every meaningful journey begins with the courage to take that first step. Whether you’re pursuing a creative dream, exploring a new opportunity, or navigating a season of change, believe in your ability to grow beyond what feels familiar. Be patient with yourself, remain curious, and celebrate progress along the way. To parents and caregivers, I’d also encourage us to remember that children experience big emotions, even when they don’t always have the words to express them. A little patience, reassurance, and intentional connection can make a lasting difference. Through Skylar Is Promoted to Big Sister, I hope to remind families that change can bring challenges, but it can also open the door to deeper understanding, stronger bonds, and beautiful new beginnings. Keep learning, keep growing, and never underestimate the impact of your story.

Thank you so much, Adesola, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
