Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
My name is Elisha Nelson. I am a wife and a mother. My son was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2. I am an insurance underwriter and I am also a children’s book author.
Please tell us about your Book.
My book is called With Love, From CJ. The book is written from my son’s point of view. It is the story of a child with autism who wants others to understand and include him. It is important for children to learn about autism and know that it is ok to be friends with others with disabilities. Autistic children may do things differently, but it is okay to be friends with them.
Please tell us about your journey.
We learned that my son was autistic 8 years ago. He is non-verbal. While there have been challenging times, the journey is rewarding! We have learned how to communicate with our son. My son is thriving and is enrolled in ABA therapy to help him to learn to communicate.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I don’t have a magic strategy. I am just a mother that will not give up. I am a mother who will advocate for her son so that he can live a meaningful life.
