Rendezvous with Successful Alternative Sculpture Artist Bailey Graham!

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Bailey Graham, also known to the internet as ‘Blue’, and she is an alternative sculpture artist.

Hi, Please introduce yourself and tell us about what it is that you do and can you please tell us more about your journey?

I create hyper-realistic fungi with a mix of woodland elements to make full sculptures and woodland crowns. I am best known at the moment for my (real)antler crowns, which have taken off in interest for events, music videos, and weddings.

I have always been interested in sculpture. When I was younger and growing up in Canada, my mum would buy me these little packs of play-dough. I would sit for HOURS, making a whole forest of animals, mini homes for them, tiny food, an entire world in a little cardboard box. As I got older, I tried different forms of art, but nothing really stuck, like sculpture. During the pandemic, when I had too much time to myself, I ordered my first batch of clay in ages and began experimenting again! Once I began uploading my progress to Tiktok, it took off, and I realized not only do I love doing it, but others do too.

Please tell us about your company, Sun and Cedar.

I began my little business, Sun and Cedar, when I was 18 (2015), and it has been growing and evolving ever since. It started with my paintings, and once I worked back into sculpture, I was quick to replace my contents with my new work. It is now home to my woodland sculptures and creative work.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I don’t necessarily have any strategies that helped me to become successful, except (I know, super cheesy) to follow my heart. When I realized how good sculpting made me feel and how incredible I felt seeing the final product, I knew it was right for me, and I would do what it took to continue doing it.

Any message for our readers.

If you are an artist on your journey, play until you find something that feels right. Experiment without expectation, and don’t give a hoot about what others think.

Fantastic! So tell us, how can people find out more about you?
