Taya Smith is an Australian gospel singer. She is most known for being a member of the Australian worship music group Hillsong United. She has also contributed her vocals to the American Billboard Christian Songs chart-winning track “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail).”

Life before fame
Taya grew up in the small town of Lismore. Taya relocated to Sydney when she was 21 years old and pursued her career in creative arts and music. She was a devoted Christian from a very young age. She would serve at the church youth group center as the leader for many years before finally deciding to launch her music career after she turned 16. Taya is very religious and has stated that she had had multiple instances where Jesus had helped her get through things that seemed impossible to resolve and to show her the way when it mattered the most.

Taya began her musical journey sometime in the early 2010s after she left the position of church youth group leader. She immediately found success after she contributed vocals to the popular Hillsong United track “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail),” the song even took home the song of the year trophy at the 2014 GMA Dove Awards.
Taya made her debut when she appeared in the Hillsong United group’s gold-selling studio LP in 2013’s Zion, which included the chart-topping hit “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail).” Two years after that, Taya appeared in another hit single, “Touch the Sky,” which was featured on their fourth full-length effort, Empires. Taya has continued to play a vital role in the worship band’s success, having also appeared on 2017’s Wonder, as well as live offerings like “Of Dirt and Grace: Live from the Land (2017)” and “People (2019)”.

Taya was in a committed relationship with the songwriter Aodhan King for a while, but their relationship ended in 2014. After a few years of taking some time for herself, she began dating again and met Ben Gaukrodger at a party that her friend was hosting in 2016. The pair quickly hit it off, and it wasn’t long before they were officially dating. Then only two years later, they tied the knot, and their wedding ceremony was held in March of 2018. They’ve since been happily married.
