Eminem is an American rapper and songwriter, one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has popularized hip-hop worldwide and has become accepted as a white rapper. Eminem has been recognized for his work and also has become a controversial figure.

Born Marshall Bruce Mathers, Eminem comes from a working-class background. In high school, he met Kim, his future wife. Eminem has three kids. He married and divorced Kim twice. The rapper has been struggling with an addiction to prescription drugs.
Eminem debuted in 1996 with Infinite, followed by the Slim Shady EP in 1997. After that, he signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment and, by 1999, became a popular mainstream artist with his third release, The Slim Shady LP. His next albums, The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show were nominated for the Grammies as Album of the Year. Eminem became a worldwide success but had to take a break after Encore in 2004. His next album did not come out until 2009 (Relapse), followed by Recovery in 2010, and Recovery became a best-seller internationally. Since then, Eminem has put out The Marshall Mathers LP 2 in 2013, Revival in 2017, Kamikaze in 2018, and Music to Be Murdered By in 2020. In addition, he has done solo work and collaborations, the main one being Bad Meets Evil, where he worked with Royce Da 5 5’9″.
Eminem also has worked as an actor. He debuted in 8 Mile in 2002, where he played a version of himself and earned an Oscar for Best Original Song. He was the first rapper ever to win this Oscar. He has also appeared in various films in small roles, such as The Wash, Funny People, The Interview, and Entourage, a series.
He founded Shady Records alongside Paul Rosenberg, and this label has signed important artists like 50 Cent, Obie Trice, and more. Eminem has his radio channel, Shade 45. In addition, he has published two books, Angry Blond and The Way I Am. The first one comments on his songs, and the second is an autobiography detailing his rise to fame and his overall experience as a star.
Eminem was the best-selling musician in the U.S. in the 2000s and also the best-selling male musician in the 2010s, reaching the third spot overall. In addition, he was named artist of the decade for the 2000s.
He has several diamond albums and hits.
Eminem has fifteen Grammy Awards, eight American Music Awards, 17 Billboard Music Awards, an Oscar, and more, being recognized for his rapping and songwriting.
Eminem is the only artist to have ten number-one album debuts on the Billboard 200.
Eminem has been a controversial figure. He was criticized for his language, especially in some of his early songs, for the feuds he has found himself involved in, and for the acid satire that many of his songs have taken against other figures, like Michael Jackson and George W. Bush.
