Demetria Devonne Lovato was born to former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Diana de la Garza and engineer and musician Patrick Lovato. Her sister, Madison De La Garza, is also an actress.

Professional Life

Demi Lovato made their professional debut in Barney & Friends in 2002, alongside Selena Gomez. The artist was cast as Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock in 2008 and its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in 2010. This propelled her to fame thanks to the role and the accompanying soundtrack, in particular, This Is Me, the debut single from Demi Lovato in a duet with Joe Jonas. It hit number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. As a performer, Demi Lovato was the star on Sonny with a Chance between 2009 and 2011. This was a Disney Channel sitcom for a teen audience about a normal teenager who got a role on her favorite show. In addition to this show, they were part of Glee and Will & Grace. They also appeared in Princess Protection Program, Smurfs, and the 2020 Will Ferrel film Eurovision Song Contest.
In 2008, Demi Lovato also released their pop-rock debut album, titled Don’t Forget. It debuted on number two on the Billboard charts, while her next one debuted on number one. Her second album was Here We Go Again in 2009. After that, Unbroken in 2011 brought the platinum single Skyscraper. The fourth album came out in 2013, followed by two more in 2015 and 2017. Confident, their sixth album, earned Demi Lovato a Grammy nomination. Finally, the seventh album came out after a hiatus in 2021 under the title Dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over. It placed second on the Billboard 200.

The artist also published a book, Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year, in 2013.

Madison De La Garza, Lovato’s half-sister, is known for her role in Desperate Housewives. She has also appeared alongside her sibling in shows and films.

Demi Lovato has stood out as an activist, committing to various causes, including LGBT + rights. They came out as non-binary and currently use they/them pronouns.
