We had the pleasure of interviewing Ron Ramsey, Jr., an independent recording artist living in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was a featured songwriter at Nashville’s Blue Bird Cafe. In addition to writing and recording his original material, he is a member of the legendary cover band EXIT 4.
Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Hi Ron, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about yourself.
Hi, I love live music. I love the volume, the synergy, the spiritual and emotional interaction, the taste, and the smell of it. I love the train wrecks, the inspired improvisations, the swing, and the groove. Real musicians making noise together, in the same room, at the same time.
The irony here is that I record my work alone. One track at a time, building the tune from the ground up. Trying desperately to get that “live feel.” Unfortunately, there’s no practical way to record for me, and over time, I’ve gotten very comfortable working this way.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
The process has always been the thing. The inspired riff or melody. Finding the song, if you will, or letting it come through. I just love the process. I gave up on finding an audience years ago, so I was surprised when an audience started finding me. I have no desire to chase commercial success. No professional ambition, if you will, but I love the idea of growing my audience. The idea of getting heard. 
Any message for our readers?
I think the most important thing for any artist is to focus on the work. Just get good at what you do; the rest will follow naturally. That’s where I’m at; trying to continue to get good at this.
